9th Night dhul-hijjah (Arafah night)

اللَّهُمَّ يَا شَاهِدَ كُلِّ نَجْوَىٰ

allahumma ya shahida kulli najwa<

O Allah Who witnesses all secrets of hearts,

وَمَوْضِعَ كُلِّ شَكْوَىٰ

wa mawdi`a kulli shakwa<

Who is the object of all complaints,

وَعَالِمَ كُلِّ خَفِيَّةٍ

wa `alima kulli khafiyyatin<

Who knows all hidden things,

وَمُنْتَهَىٰ كُلِّ حَاجَةٍ

wa muntaha kulli hajatin<

and Who is the aim of all needs!

يَا مُبْتَدِئاً بِٱلنِّعَمِ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعِبَادِ

ya mubtadi'an bilnni`ami `ala al`ibadi<

O He Who instigates favoring on the Servants!

يَا كَرِيمَ ٱلْعَفْوِ

ya karima al`afwi<

O He Who is All-generous in pardoning!

يَا حَسَنَ ٱلتِّجَاوُزِ

ya hasana alttajawuzi<

O He Who is All-excellent in overlooking!

يَا جَوَادُ

ya jawadu<

O All-magnanimous!

يَا مَنْ لا يُوَارِي مِنْهُ لَيْلٌ دَاجٍ

ya man la yuwari minhu laylun dajin<

O He Who cannot be concealed by the covering darkness of night,

وَلاَ بَحْرٌ عَجَّاجٌ

wa la bahrun `ajjajun<

the roaring clamor of oceans,

وَلاَ سَمَاءٌ ذَاتُ ابْرَاجٍ

wa la sama'un dhatu abrajin<

the skies along with their constellations,

وَلاَ ظُلَمٌ ذَاتُ ٱرْتِتَاجٍ

wa la zulamun dhatu irtitajin<

or the thunderous murk.

يَا مَنِ ٱلظُّلْمَةُ عِنْدَهُ ضِيَاءٌ

ya man alzzulmatu `indahu diya'un<

O He with Whom the entire murk is light,

اسْالُكَ بِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

as'aluka binuri wajhika alkarimi<

I beseech You in the name of the brightness of Your Noble Face

ٱلَّذِي تَجَلَّيْتَ بِهِ لِلْجَبَلِ فَجَعَلْتَهُ دَكّاً

alladhi tajallayta bihi liljabali faja`altahu dakkan<

through which You manifested Your glory to the mountain; so, You made it crumble

وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقاً

wa kharra musa sa`iqan<

and (Prophet) Moses fell down in a swoon,

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي رَفَعْتَ بِهِ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ بِلاَ عَمَدٍ

wa bismika alladhi rafa`ta bihi alssamawati bila`amadin<

in the name of Your Name by which You raised the heavens without any pillars

وَسَطَحْتَ بِهِ ٱلارْضَ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ مَاءٍ جَمَدٍ

wa satahta bihi al-arda `ala wajhi ma'in jamadin<

and by which You flattened the earth on the surface of solid water,

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلْمَخْزُونِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ

wa bismika almakhzuni almaknuni<

in the name of Your Name—the concealed, the stored,

ٱلْمَكْتُوبِ ٱلطَّاهِرِ

almaktubi alttahiri<

the scribed, and the pure,

ٱلَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيتَ بِهِ اجَبْتَ

alladhi idha du`ita bihi ajabta<

which You answer any one who beseeches You in its name

وَإِذَا سُئِلْتَ بِهِ اعْطَيْتَ

wa idha su'ilta bihi a`tayta<

and grant any one who asks You his request,

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلسُّبُّوحِ ٱلْقُدُّوسِ ٱلْبُرْهَانِ

wa bismika alssubbuhi alquddusi alburhani<

in the name of Your Name; the Praised, Holy, and Demonstrative,

ٱلَّذِي هُوَ نُورٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نُورٍ

alladhi huwa nurun `ala kulli nurin<

which is light over the entire light,

وَنُورٌ مِنْ نُورٍ

wa nurun min nurin<

which is light made of light,

يُضِيءُ مِنْهُ كُلُّ نُورٍ

yudi'u minhu kullu nurin<

and from which all lights take their brightness;

إِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلارْضَ ٱنْشَقَّتْ

idha balagha al-arda inshaqqat<

if it reaches the earth, it will be rent asunder,

وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ فُتِحَتْ

wa idha balagha alssamawati futihat<

if it reaches the heavens, they will be opened,

وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلعَرْشَ ٱهْتَزَّ

wa idha balagha al`arsha ihtazza<

and if it reaches the throne, it will quiver;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي تَرْتَعِدُ مِنْهُ فَرَائِصُ مَلائِكَتِكَ

wa bismika alladhi tarta`idu minhu fara'isu mala'ikatika<

and in the name of Your Name from the fear of which the muscles of Your angels tremble.

وَاسْالُكَ بِحَقِّ جَبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَإِسْرَافِيلَ

wa as'aluka bihaqqi jabra'ila wa mika'ila wa israfila<

I beseech You in the name of [Archangels] Gabriel, Michael, and Seraph,

وَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ

wa bihaqqi muhammadin almustafa<

in the name of Muhammad, the Divinely-chosen Prophet,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi<

peace be upon him, his Household,

وَعَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ وَجَمِيعِ ٱلْمَلاَئِكَةِ

wa `ala jami`i al-anbiya'i wa jami`i almala'ikati<

and all prophets and angels;

وَبِٱلاِﹾسْمِ ٱلَّذِي مَشَىٰ بِهِ ٱلْخِضْرُ عَلَىٰ قُلَلِ ٱلْمَاءِ

wa bilismi alladhi masha bihi alkhidru `ala qulali alma'i<

in the name of the Name through which al-Khadir could walk on waters

كَمَا مَشَىٰ بِهِ عَلَىٰ جَدَدِ ٱلارْضِ

kama masha bihi `ala jadadi al-ardi<

just as he used to walk on lands;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي فَلَقْتَ بِهِ ٱلبَحْرَ لِمُوسَىٰ

wa bismika alladhi falaqta bihi albahra limusa<

in the name of You Name through which You caused the sea to cleave asunder for Moses,

وَاغْرَقْتَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَقَوْمَهُ

wa aghraqta fir`awna wa qawmahu<

You drowned Pharaoh and his people,

وَانْجَيْتَ بِهِ مُوسَىٰ بْنَ عِمْرَانَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ

wa anjayta bihi musa bna `imrana wa man ma`ahu<

and saved Moses, the son of `Imran, and those who accompanied him;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ مُوسَىٰ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi musa bnu `imrana<

in the name of Your Name by which Moses, the son of `Imran, besought You

مِنْ جَانِبِ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلايْمَنِ

min janibi altturi al-aymani<

from the right slope of the Mount;

فَٱسْتَجَبْتَ لَهُ وَالْقَيْتَ عَلَيْهِ مَحَبَّةً مِنْكَ

fastajabta lahu wa alqayta `alayhi mahabbatan minka<

so, You responded to him and cast down upon him love from You;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي بِهِ احْيَا عِيسَىٰ بْنُ مَرْيَمَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

wa bismika alladhi bihi ahya `isa bnu maryama almawta<

in the name of Your Name by which Jesus, the son of Mary, brought life to the dead,

وَتَكَلَّمَ فِي ٱلْمَهْدِ صَبِيّاً

wa takallama fi almahdi sabiyyan<

could speak while he was a child in the cradle,

وَابْرَا ٱلاكْمَهَ وَٱلابْرَصَ بِإِذْنِكَ

wa abra'a al-akmaha wal-abrasa bi'idhnika<

and healed the blind and the leprous by Your permission;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ حَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi hamalatu `arshika<

in the name of Your Name by which the bearers of Your Throne besought You

وَجَبْرَائِيلُ وَمِيكَائِيلُ وَإِسْرَافِيلُ

wa jabra'ilu wa mika'ilu wa israfilu<

and so did Gabriel, Michael, Seraph,

وَحَبِيبُكَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

wa habibuka muhammadun salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi<

Muhammad Your most beloved one (peace be upon him and upon his Household)

وَمَلائِكَتُكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

wa mala'ikatuka almuqarrbuna<

Your favorite angels,

وَانْبِيَاؤُكَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

wa anbiya'uka almursaluna<

Your messaged Prophets,

وَعِبَادُكَ ٱلصَّالِحُونَ مِنْ اهْلِ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارَضِينَ

wa `ibaduka alssalihuna min ahli alssamawati wal-aradina<

and Your righteous servants from among the inhabitants of the heavens and the layers of the earth;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ ذُو ٱلنُّونِ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi dhu alnnuni<

in the name of Your Name by which Dhu’l-Nun (Prophet Jonah) besought You

إِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِباً فَظَنَّ انْ لَنْ تَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ

idh dhahaba mughadiban fazanna an lan taqdira `alayhi<

when he departed in wrath: he imagined that You had no power over him,

فَنَادَىٰ فِي ٱلظُّلُمَاتِ انْ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

fanada fi alzzulumati an la ilaha illa anta subhanaka<

but he cried through the depths of darkness, “There is no god but You. Glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ

inni kuntu min alzzalimina<

I was indeed one of those who are wrong!”

فَٱسْتَجَبْتَ لَهُ وَنَجَّيْتَهُ مِنَ ٱلغَمِّ

fastajabta lahu wa najjaytahu min alghammi<

So, You responded to him and delivered him from the grief

وَكَذٰلِكَ تُنْجِي ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

wa kadhalika tunji almu'minina<

and thus do You deliver the believers;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ دَاوُودُ

wa bismika al`azimi alladhi da`aka bihi dawudu<

in the name of Your Great Name by which David besought You

وَخَرَّ لَكَ سَاجِداً فَغَفَرْتَ لَهُ ذَنْبَهُ

wa kharra laka sajidan faghafarta lahu dhanbahu<

and as he fell down prostrating himself to You, You rectified it for him;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَتْكَ بِهِ آسِيَةُ ٱمْرَاةُ فِرْعَوْنَ

wa bismika alladhi da`atka bihi asiyatu imra'atu fir`awna<

in the name of Your Name by which ªsiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, besought You,

إِذْ قَالَتْ: ”رَبِّ ٱبْنِ لِي عِنْدَكَ بَيْتاً فِي ٱلْجَنَّةِ

idh qalat rabbi ibni li `indaka baytan fi aljannati<

saying, “My Lord! Build for me a house with You in Paradise,

وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِ

wa najjini min fir`awna wa `amalihi<

deliver me from Pharaoh and his doing,

وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ“

wa najjini min alqawmi alzzalimina<

and deliver me from the unjust people.”

فَٱسْتَجَبْتَ لَهَا دُعَاءَهَا

fastajabta laha du`a'aha<

So, You responded to her prayer;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ ايُّوبُ إِذْ حَلَّ بِهِ ٱلْبَلاَءُ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi ayyubu idh halla bihi albala'u<

in the name of Your Name by which (Prophet) Job besought You after misfortune had befallen him;

فَعَافَيْتَهُ وَآتَيْتَهُ اهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ

fa`afaytahu wa ataytahu ahlahu wa mithlahum ma`ahum<

so, You healed him and gave him his family and the like of them with them:

رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَابِدِينَ

rahmatan min `indika wa dhikra lil`abidina<

a mercy from You and a reminder to the worshippers;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ يَعْقُوبُ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi ya`qubu<

in the name of Your Name by which (Prophet) Jacob besought You;

فَرَدَدْتَ عَلَيْهِ بَصَرَهُ وَقُرَّةَ عَيْنِهِ يُوسُفَ وَجَمَعْتَ شَمْلَهُ

faradadta `alayhi basarahu wa qurrata `aynihi yusufa wa jama`ta shamlahu<

so, You returned to him his sight and the delight of his heart, Joseph, and You reunified him.

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ سُلَيْمَانُ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi sulaymanu<

in the name of Your Name by which (Prophet) Solomon besought You;

فَوَهَبْتَ لَهُ مُلْكاً لاَ يَنْبَغِي لاحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ

fawahabta lahu mulkan la yanbaghi li'ahadin min ba`dihi<

So, You gifted him kingdom that none else should never gain,

إِنَّكَ انْتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ

innaka anta alwahhabu<

for You are verily the Granter of bounties;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي سَخَّرْتَ بِهِ ٱلْبُرَاقَ لِمُحَمَّدٍ

wa bismika alladhi sakhkharta bihi alburaqa limuhammadin<

in the name of Your Name by which You subdued the Buraq to Muhammad,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi wa sallama<

peace and blessings be upon him and his Household,

إِذْ قَالَ تَعَالَىٰ: ”سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي اسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً

idh qala ta`ala subhana alladhi asra bi`abdihi laylan<

as Almighty Allah says, “Glory be to Him Who made His servant to go on a night

مِنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَىٰ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلاقْصَىٰ“

min almasjidi alharami ila almasjidi al-aqsa<

from the Sacred Mosque to the remote mosque.”

وَقَوْلُهُ: ”سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ

wa qawluhu subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinina<

He also says, “Glory be to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it.

وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ“

wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibuna<

Surely, to our Lord we must return;”

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي تَنَزَّلَ بِهِ جَبْرَائِيلُ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa bismika alladhi tanazzala bihi jabra'ilu `alamuhammadin<

in the name of Your Name by which (Archangel) Gabriel used to ascend to Muhammad,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi<

peace be upon him and his Household;

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي دَعَاكَ بِهِ آدَمُ

wa bismika alladhi da`aka bihi adamu<

and in the name of Your Name by which Adam besought You;

فَغَفَرْتَ لَهُ ذَنْبَهُ وَاسْكَنْتَهُ جَنَّتَكَ

faghafarta lahu dhanbahu wa askantahu jannataka<

so, You rectified him and allowed him to dwell in Your Paradise.

وَاسْالُكَ بِحَقِّ ٱلْقُرْآنِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

wa as'aluka bihaqqi alqur'ani al`azimi<

I beseech You in the name of the Great Qur'an,

وَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ

wa bihaqqi muhammadin khatami alnnabiyyina<

in the name of Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets,

وَبِحَقِّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

wa bihaqqi ibrahima<

in the name of Abraham,

وَبِحَقِّ فَصْلِكَ يَوْمَ ٱلْقَضَاءِ

wa bihaqqi faslika yawma alqada'i<

in the name of Your Judgment on the Day of the Administration of Justice,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْمَوَازِينِ إِذَا نُصِبَتْ

wa bihaqqi almawazini idha nusibat<

in the name of the Scales when they shall be set up,

وَٱلصُّحُفِ إِذَا نُشِرَتْ

walssuhufi idha nushirat<

the Scrolls when they shall be laid open,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا جَرَىٰ

wa bihaqqi alqalami wa ma jara<

the Pen and whatever has been decided,

وَٱللَّوْحِ وَمَا احْصَىٰ

wallawhi wa ma ahsa<

and the Tablet and whatever it has recorded;

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلاِﹾسْمِ ٱلَّذِي كَتَبْتَهُ عَلَىٰ سُرَادِقِ ٱلْعَرْشِ

wa bihaqqi alismi alladhi katabtahu `ala suradiqi al`arshi<

in the name of the Name that You had inscribed on the pavilion of the Divine Throne

قَبْلَ خَلْقِكَ ٱلْخَلْقَ وَٱلدُّنْيَا

qabla khalqika alkhalqa walddunya<

two thousand years before You created the beings, the world,

وَٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ بِالْفَيْ عَامٍ

walshshmasa walqamara bi'alfay `amin<

the sun, and the moon.

وَاشْهَدُ انْ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ

wa ashhadu an la ilaha illa allahu<

I bear witness that there is no god save Allah,

وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ

wahdahu la sharika lahu<

alone without having any partner,

وَانَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

wa anna muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluhu<

and that Muhammad is his servant and messenger.

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلْمَخْزُونِ فِي خَزَائِنِكَ

wa as'aluka bismika almakhzuni fi khaza'inika<

I beseech You in the name of Your Name that is hoarded in Your stores,

ٱلَّذِي ٱسْتَاثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ

alladhi ista'tharta bihi fi `ilmi alghaybi `indaka<

You have kept in the knowledge of the Unseen with You

لَمْ يَظْهَرْ عَلَيْهِ احَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

lam yazhar `alayhi ahadun min khalqika<

and it has not been shown to any of Your creatures,

لاَ مَلَكٌ مُقَرَّبٌ

la malakun muqarrabun<

be him a favorite angel,

وَلاَ نَبِيٌّ مُرْسَلٌ

wa la nabiyyun mursalun<

a missioned Prophet,

وَلاَ عَبْدٌ مُصْطَفَىٰ

wa la `abdun mustafa<

or a chosen servant.

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي شَقَقْتَ بِهِ ٱلْبِحَارَ

wa as'aluka bismika alladhi shaqaqta bihi albihara<

I beseech You in the name of Your Name by which You rent asunder the oceans,

وَقَامَتْ بِهِ ٱلْجِبَالُ

wa qamat bihi aljibalu<

the mountains rose,

وَٱخْتَلَفَ بِهِ ٱللَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ

wakhtalafa bihi allaylu walnnaharu<

and night and day follow each other,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلسَّبْعِ ٱلْمَثَانِي وَٱلْقُرْآنِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

wa bihaqqi alssab`i almathani walqur'ani al`azimi<

in the name of the seven of the oft-repeated verses and the Grand Qur'an,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْكِرَامِ ٱلْكَاتِبِينَ

wa bihaqqi alkirami alkatibina<

in the name of the noble, recording angels,

وَبِحَقِّ طه وَيس وَكهيعص

wa bihaqqi ta-ha wa ya-sin wa kaf-ha-ya-`ayn-sad<

in the name of Ta-Ha, Ya-Sin, Kaf-Ha-Ya-`Ayn-Sad,

وَحم عسق

wa ha-mim-`ayn-sin-qaf<

Ha-Mim-`Ayn-Sin-Qaf,

وَبِحَقِّ تَوْرَاةِ مُوسَىٰ

wa bihaqqi tawrati musa<

and in the name of the Torah of Moses,

وَإِنْجِيلِ عِيسَىٰ

wa injili `isa<

the Gospel of Jesus,

وَزَبُورِ دَاوُودَ

wa zaburi dawuda<

the Psalms of David,

وَفُرْقَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa furqani muhammadin<

the Furqan (Criterion) of Muhammad,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi<

peace be upon him, his Household,

وَعَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلرُّسُلِ وَبَاهِيّاً شَرَاهِيّاً

wa `ala jami`i alrrusuli wa bahiyyan sharahiyyan<

and all the messengers and bahiyya sharahiyya.([1])

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِحَقِّ تِلْكَ ٱلْمُنَاجَاةِ

allahumma inni as'aluka bihaqqi tilka almunajati<

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of this confidential talk

ٱلَّتِي كَانَتْ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ مُوسَىٰ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ

allati kanat baynaka wa bayna musa bni `imrana<

which took place between You and Moses, the son of `Imran,

فَوْقَ جَبَلِ طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ

fawqa jabali turi sayna'a<

on the Mount Tur Sayna',

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمْتَهُ مَلَكَ ٱلْمَوْتِ لِقَبْضِ ٱلارْوَاحِ

wa as'aluka bismika alladhi `allamtahu malaka almawti liqabdi al-arwahi<

I beseech You in the name of Your Name which You taught the Angel of Death so that he would be able to grasp the souls,

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي كُتِبَ عَلَىٰ وَرَقِ ٱلزَّيْتُونِ

wa as'aluka bismika alladhi kutiba `ala waraqi alzzaytuni<

I beseech You in the name of Your Name which was written on the leaves of olive-trees;

فَخَضَعتِ ٱلنِّيرَانُ لِتِلْكَ ٱلْوَرَقَةِ

fakhada`t alnniranu litilka alwaraqati<

so, fires subdued to these leaves

فَقُلْتَ: ”يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْداً وَسَلاَماً“

faqulta ya naru kuni bardan wa salaman<

after You said, “O fire! Be a comfort and peace,”

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي كَتَبْتَهُ عَلَىٰ سُرَادِقِ ٱلْمَجْدِ وَٱلْكَرَامَةِ

wa as'aluka bismika alladhi katabtahu `ala suradiqi almajdi walkaramati<

and I beseech You in the name of Your Name that You wrote on the canopies of Glory and Dignity.

يَا مَنْ لاَ يُخْفِيهِ سَائِلٌ

ya man la yukhfihi sa'ilun<

O He Who cannot be annoyed by any beseecher

وَلاَ يَنْقُصُهُ نَائِلٌ

wa la yanqusuhu na'ilun<

He Who cannot be influenced by any reward (that He presents)!

يَا مَنْ بِهِ يُسْتَغَاثُ وَإِلَيْهِ يُلْجَا

ya man bihi yustaghathu wa ilayhi yulja'u<

O He Whose refuge is taken and to Whom resort is made!

اسْالُكَ بِمَعَاقِدِ ٱلْعِزِّ مِنْ عَرْشِكَ

as'aluka bima`aqidi al`izzi min `arshika<

I beseech You in the name of the Seats of Honor belonging to Your Throne,

وَمُنْتَهَىٰ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ

wa muntaha alrrahmati min kitabika<

the utmost of mercy in Your Book,

وَبِٱسْمِكَ ٱلاعْظَمِ

wa bismika al-a`zami<

Your All-great Name,

وَجَدِّكَ ٱلاعْلَىٰ

wa jaddika al-a`la<

Your All-high majesty,

وَكَلِمَاتِكَ ٱلتَّامَّاتِ ٱلْعُلَىٰ

wa kalimatika alttammati al`ula<

and Your most high, perfect Words.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ ٱلرِّيَاحِ وَمَا ذَرَتْ

allahumma rabba alrriyahi wa ma dharat<

O Allah, Lord of winds and whatever they scatter far,

وَٱلسَّمَاءِ وَمَا اظَلَّتْ

walssama'i wa ma azallat<

Lord of the sky and whatever it covers,

وَٱلارْضِ وَمَا اقَلَّتْ

wal-ardi wa ma aqallat<

the Lord of the earth and whatever it carries,

وَٱلشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا اضَلَّتْ

walshshayatini wa ma adallat<

the Lord of the devils and whomever they mislead,

وَٱلْبِحَارِ وَمَا جَرَتْ

walbihari wa ma jarat<

and the Lord of the oceans and wherever they flow.

وَبِحَقِّ كُلِّ حَقٍّ هُوَ عَلَيْكَ حَقٌّ

wa bihaqqi kulli haqqin huwa `alayka haqqun<

I beseech You in the name of everything that enjoys a right with You,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْمَلاَئِكَةِ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

wa bihaqqi almala'ikati almuqarrabina<

in the name of the favorite angels,

وَٱلرَّوْحَانِيِّينَ وَٱلْكَرُّوبِيِّينَ

walrrawhaniyyina walkarubiyyina<

the angels managing the spirits, the cherubim,

وَٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ لَكَ بِٱللَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لاَ يَفْتُرُونَ

walmusabbihina laka billayli walnnahari la yafturuna<

and the angels praising You night and day without showing sluggishness,

وَبِحَقِّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلِكَ

wa bihaqqi ibrahima khalilika<

in the name of Abraham, Your intimate friend,

وَبِحَقِّ كُلِّ وَلِيٍّ يُنَادِيكَ بَيْنَ ٱلصَّفَا وَٱلْمَرْوَةِ

wa bihaqqi kulli waliyyin yunadika bayna alssafawalmarwati<

and in the name of each and every saint who calls You between Safa and Marwah

وَتَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ دُعَاءَهُ

wa tastajibu lahu du`a'ahu<

and You respond to his/her prayer.

يَا مُجِيبُ اسْالُكَ بِحَقِّ هٰذِهِ ٱلاسْمَاءِ وَبِهٰذِهِ ٱلدَّعَوَاتِ

ya mujibu as'aluka bihaqqi hadhihi al-asma'i wa bihadhihi aldda`awati<

O Responsive Lord! I beseech You in the name of all these names and all these prayers

انْ تَغْفِرَ لَنَا مَا قَدَّمْنَا وَمَا اخَّرْنَا

an taghfira lana ma qaddamna wa ma akhkharna<

to forgive us all our past and coming sins,

وَمَا اسْرَرْنَا وَمَا اعْلَنَّا

wa ma asrarna wa ma a`lanna<

including the secret and the open,

وَمَا ابْدَيْنَا وَمَا اخْفَيْنَا

wa ma abdayna wa ma akhfayna<

the hidden and the public,

وَمَا انْتَ اعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنَّا

wa ma anta a`lamu bihi minna<

and those whom You know better than we do.

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun<

Verily, You have power over all things.

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimina<

[Respond] in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

يَا حَافِظَ كُلِّ غَرِيبٍ

ya hafiza kulli gharibin<

O He Who guards all strangers!

يَا مُؤْنِسَ كُلِّ وَحِيدٍ

ya mu'nisa kulli wahidin<

O He Who brings entertainment to all lonely ones!

يَا قُوَّةَ كُلِّ ضَعِيفٍ

ya quwwata kulli da`ifin<

O He Who is the power of all the weak!

يَا نَاصِرَ كُلِّ مَظْلُومٍ

ya nasira kulli mazlumin<

O He Who is the support of all the persecuted!

يَا رَازِقَ كُلِّ مَحْرُومٍ

ya raziqa kulli mahrumin<

O He Who bestows upon all the deprived!

يَا مُؤْنِسَ كُلِّ مُسْتَوْحِشٍ

ya mu'nisa kulli mustawhishin<

O He Who brings entertainment to all the lonesome!

يَا صَاحِبَ كُلِّ مُسَافِرٍ

ya sahiba kulli musafirin<

O He Who is the company of all those on journeys!

يَا عِمَادَ كُلِّ حَاضِرٍ

ya `imada kulli hadirin<

O He Who is the pillar of all the present!

يَا غَافِرَ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ وَخَطِيئَةٍ

ya ghafira kulli dhanbin wa khati'atin<

O He Who forgives all sins and offenses!

يَا غِيَاثَ ٱلْمُسْتَغِيثِينَ

ya ghiyatha almustaghithina<

O He Who is the aid of all those begging aid!

يَا صَرِيخَ ٱلْمُسْتَصْرِخِينَ

ya sarikha almustasrikhina<

O He Who is the relief of all those pleading for relief!

يَا كَاشِفَ كَرْبِ ٱلْمَكْرُوبِينَ

ya kashifa karbi almakrubina<

O He Who relieves the calamity of those inflicted with calamities!

يَا فَارِجَ هَمِّ ٱلْمَهْمُومِينَ

ya farija hammi almahmumina<

O He Who alleviate the distress of the distressed ones!

يَا بَدِيعَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارَضِينَ

ya badi`a alssamawati wal-aradina<

O He Who is the Originator of the heavens and the layers of the earth!

يَا مُنْتَهَىٰ غَايَةِ ٱلطَّالِبِينَ

ya muntaha ghayati alttalibina<

O He Who is the utmost hope of the seekers!

يَا مُجِيبَ دَعْوَةِ ٱلْمُضْطَرِّينَ

ya mujiba da`wati almudtarrina<

O He Who responds to the prayers of the troubled!

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina<

O He Who is the most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

يَارَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

ya rabba al`alamina<

O Lord of the worlds!

يَا دَيَّانَ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

ya dayyana yawmi alddini<

O Master of the Judgment Day!

يَا اجْوَدَ ٱلاجْوَدِينَ

ya ajwada al-ajwadina<

O most Magnanimous of all those who act magnanimously!

يَا اكْرَمَ ٱلاكْرَمِينَ

ya akrama al-akramina<

O most Generous of all those who act generously!

يَا اسْمَعَ ٱلسَّامِعِينَ

ya asma`a alssami`ina<

O most Hearing of all those who can hear!

يَا ابْصَرَ ٱلنَّاظِرِينَ

ya absara alnnazirina<

O most Seeing of all those who can see!

يَا اقْدَرَ ٱلقَادِرِينَ

ya aqdara alqadirina<

O most Powerful of all those who have power!

ٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تُغَيِّرُ ٱلنِّعَمَ

ighfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tughayyiru alnni`ama<

(Please) forgive my sins that change the bounties

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تُورِثُ ٱلنَّدَمَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati turithu alnnadama<

And forgive me my sins that bring about remorse,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تُورِثُ ٱلسَّقَمَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati turithu alssaqama<

forgive me my sins that result in ailment,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تَهْتِكُ ٱلْعِصَمَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tahtiku al`isama<

forgive me my sins that tear safeguards,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تَرُدُّ ٱلدُّعَاءَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati taruddu alddu`a'a<

forgive me my sins that repel prayers,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تَحْبِسُ قَطْرَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tahbisu qatra alssama'i<

forgive me my sins that withhold the drops of the sky,

وَاغْفِرْ لِي الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تُعَجِّلُ الفَناءِ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tu`ajjilu alfana'a<

forgive me my sins that hasten extinction,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تَجْلِبُ ٱلشَّقَاءَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tajlibu alshshaqa'a<

forgive me my sins that beget misery,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تُظْلِمُ ٱلْهَوَاءَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati tuzlimu alhawa'a<

forgive me my sins that darken the atmospheres,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي تَكْشِفُ ٱلْغِطَاءَ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati takshifu alghita'a<

forgive me my sins that disclose the coverings,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي لاَ يَغْفِرُهَا غَيْرُكَ يَا اللَّهُ

waghfir liya aldhdhunuba allati la yaghfiruhaghayruka ya allahu<

forgive me my sins that none can forgive save You, O Allah,

وَٱحْمِلْ عَنِّي كُلَّ تَبِعَةٍ لاحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

wahmil `anni kulla tabi`atin li'ahadin min khalqika<

bear from me every offensive that I have made against any of Your creatures,

وَٱجْعَلْ لِي مِنْ امْرِي فَرَجاً وَمَخْرَجاً وَيُسْراً

waj`al li min amri farajan wa makhrajan wa yusran<

make all my affairs reach at relief, exit, and easiness,

وَانْزِلْ يَقِينَكَ فِي صَدْرِي

wa anzil yaqinaka fi sadri<

make Your tranquility ascend on my chest,

وَرَجَاءَكَ فِي قَلْبِي حَتَّىٰ لاَ ارْجُوَ غَيْرَكَ

wa raja'aka fi qalbi hatta la arjuwa ghayraka<

and make hope in You ascend on my heart so that I shall never hope for anyone save You.

اللَّهُمَّ ٱحْفَظْنِي وَعَافِنِي فِي مَقَامِي

allahumma ihfazni wa `afini fi maqami<

O Allah, (please) safeguard me, heal me in all my situations,

وَٱصْحَبْنِي فِي لَيْلِي وَنَهَارِي

washabni fi layli wa nahari<

be my companion at nights and days,

وَمِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيَّ وَمِنْ خَلْفِي

wa min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi<

be ahead of me, behind me,

وَعَنْ يَمِينِي وَعَنْ شِمَالِي

wa `an yamini wa `an shimali<

from my right side, from my left side,

وَمِنْ فَوْقِي وَمِنْ تَحْتِي

wa min fawqi wa min tahti<

from above me, and from beneath me,

وَيَسِّرْ لِيَ ٱلسَّبِيلَ

wa yassir liya alssabila<

make easy all the ways for me,

وَاحْسِنْ لِيَ ٱلتَّيْسِيرَ

wa ahsin liya alttaysira<

make excellent facilitation for me,

وَلاَ تَخْذُلْنِي فِي ٱلْعَسِيرِ

wa la takhdhulni fi al`asiri<

do not disappoint me in hardships,

وَٱهْدِنِي يَا خَيْرَ دَلِيلٍ

wahdini ya khayra dalilin<

guide me, O Best of all guides,

وَلاَ تَكِلْنِي إِلَىٰ نَفْسِي فِي ٱلامُورِ

wa la takilni ila nafsi fi al-umuri<

do not leave me alone in all my affairs,

وَلَقِّنِي كُلَّ سُرُورٍ

wa laqqini kulla sururin<

make me receive all pleasures,

وَٱقْلِبْنِي إِلَىٰ اهْلِي بِٱلفَلاَحِ وَٱلنَّجَاحِ

waqlibni ila ahli bilfalahi walnnajahi<

and make me return to my family with prosperity, success,

مَحْبُوراً فِي ٱلْعَاجِلِ وَٱلآجِلِ

mahburan fi al`ajili wal-ajili<

and gladness in the present and in the future.

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun<

Verily, You have power over all things.

وَٱرْزُقْنِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

warzuqni min fadlika<

(Please) bestow upon me with Your favors,

وَاوْسِعْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ رِزْقِكَ

wa awsi` `alayya min tayyibati rizqika<

expand for me the most favorable of Your sustenance,

وَٱسْتَعْمِلْنِي فِي طَاعَتِكَ

wasta`milni fi ta`atika<

apply me to the obedience to You,

وَاجِرْنِي مِنْ عَذَابِكَ وَنَارِكَ

wa ajirni min `adhabika wa narika<

redeem me from Your chastisement and Fire,

وَٱقْلِبْنِي إِذَا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي إِلَىٰ جَنَّتِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ

waqlibni idha tawaffaytani ila jannatika birahmatika<

and when You grasp my soul, lead me to Your Paradise, by Your mercy.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ

allahumma inni a`udhu bika min zawali ni`matika<

O Allah, I seek Your protection against confiscation of Your graces,

وَمِنْ تَحْوِيلِ عَافِيَتِكَ

wa min tahwili `afiyatika<

against alternation of Your conferral of wellbeing on me,

وَمِنْ حُلُولِ نَقِمَتِكَ

wa min hululi naqimatika<

against the befalling of Your punishment,

وَمِنْ نُزُولِ عَذَابِكَ

wa min nuzuli `adhabika<

and against the ensuing of Your chastisement.

وَاعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ ٱلْبَلاَءِ

wa a`udhu bika min jahdi albala'i<

I seek Your protection against arduous hardships,

وَدَرَكِ ٱلشَّقَاءِ

wa daraki alshshaqa'i<

against coming about of misery,

وَمِنْ سُوءِ ٱلْقَضَاءِ

wa min su'i alqada'i<

against evil end results,

وَشَمَاتَةِ ٱلاعْدَاءِ

wa shamatati al-a`da'i<

against my enemies’ gloating over my grief,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ

wa min sharri ma yanzilu min alssama'i<

against the evil of everything that ascends from the heavens,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي ٱلْكِتَابِ ٱلْمُنْزَلِ

wa min sharri ma fi alkitabi almunzali<

and against the evils mentioned in the Revealed Book.

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ ٱلاشْرَارِ

allahumma la taj`alni min al-ashrari<

O Allah, (please) do not include me with the evil ones,

وَلاَ مِنْ اصْحَابِ ٱلنَّارِ

wa la min ashabi alnnari<

do not include me with the people of Hellfire,

وَلاَ تَحْرِمْنِي صُحْبَةَ ٱلاخْيَارِ

wa la tahrimni suhbata al-akhyari<

do not deprive me of the companionship of the upright people,

وَاحْيِنِي حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً

wa ahyini hayatan tayyibatan<

grant me a pleasant lifetime,

وَتَوَفَّنِي وَفَاةً طَيِّبَةً تُلْحِقُنِي بِٱلابْرَارِ

wa tawaffani wafatan tayyibatan tulhiquni bil-abrari<

decide for me a kind of death due to which You will join me to the Pious Ones,

وَٱرْزُقْنِي مُرَافَقَةَ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ

warzuqni murafaqata al-anbiya'i<

and confer upon me with the companionship of the Prophets

فِي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ مَلِيكٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

fi maq`adi sidqin `inda malikin muqtadirin<

in the seat of honesty with the All-powerful King.

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ حُسْنِ بَلاَئِكَ وَصُنْعِكَ

allahumma laka alhamdu `ala husni bala'ika wa sun`ika<

O Allah, all praise be to You for Your pleasant trials and deeds to us.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ ٱلإِسْلاَمِ وَٱتِّبَاعِ ٱلسُّنَّةِ

wa laka alhamdu `ala al-islami wattiba`i alssunnati<

All praise be to You for my being Muslim and for my following the Prophet’s traditions.

يَا رَبِّ كَمَا هَدَيْتَهُمْ لِدِينِكَ

ya rabbi kama hadaytahum lidinika<

O my Lord, as You have guided them (i.e. the pious)

وَعَلَّمْتَهُمْ كِتَابَكَ فَٱهْدِنَا وَعَلِّمْنَا

wa `allamtahum kitabaka fahdina wa `allimna<

and taught them Your Book, (please) guide us and teach us.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ حُسْنِ بَلاَئِكَ وَصُنْعِكَ عِنْدِي خَاصَّةً

wa laka alhamdu `ala husni bala'ika wa sun`ika `indi khassatan<

All praise be to You for Your pleasant trials and deeds to me in private,

كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِي فَاحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي

kama khalaqtani fa'ahsanta khalqi<

as You created me, gifted me an excellent form,

وَعَلَّمْتَنِي فَاحْسَنْتَ تَعْلِيمِي

wa `allamtani fa'ahsanta ta`limi<

taught me, gifted me excellent erudition,

وَهَدَيْتَنِي فَاحْسَنْتَ هِدَايَتِي

wa hadaytani fa'ahsanta hidayati<

guided me, and gifted me excellent guidance.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ إِنْعَامِكَ عَلَيَّ قَدِيماً وَحَدِيثاً

falaka alhamdu `ala in`amika `alayya qadiman wa hadithan<

So, all praise be to You for Your favors that You conferred upon me in the past and in the present.

فَكَمْ مِنْ كَرْبٍ يَا سَيِّدِي قَدْ فَرَّجْتَهُ

fakam min karbin ya sayyidi qad farrajtahu<

Too many are the agonies that You, my Master, relieved.

وَكَمْ مِنْ غَمٍّ يَا سَيِّدِي قَدْ نَفَّسْتَهُ

wa kam min ghammin ya sayyidi qad naffastahu<

Too many are the distresses that You, my Master, eased.

وَكَمْ مِنْ هَمٍّ يَا سَيِّدِي قَدْ كَشَفْتَهُ

wa kam min hammin ya sayyidi qad kashaftahu<

Too many are the sufferings that You, my Master, alleviated.

وَكَمْ مِنْ بَلاَءٍ يَا سَيِّدِي قَدْ صَرَفْتَهُ

wa kam min bala'in ya sayyidi qad saraftahu<

Too many are the hardships from which You, my Master, saved me.

وَكَمْ مِنْ عَيْبٍ يَا سَيِّدِي قَدْ سَتَرْتَهُ

wa kam min `aybin ya sayyidi qad satartahu<

Too many are the defects that You, my Master, covered.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ حَالٍ

falaka alhamdu `ala kulli halin<

So, all praise be to You for all conditions,

فِي كُلِّ مَثْوَىٰ وَزَمَانٍ

fi kulli mathwan wa zamanin<

in every place and time,

وَمُنْقَلَبٍ وَمَقَامٍ

wa munqalabin wa maqamin<

every circumstance and situation,

وَعَلَىٰ هٰذِهِ ٱلْحَالِ وَكُلِّ حَالٍ

wa `ala hadhihi alhali wa kulli halin<

and for the current condition and all conditions.

اللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ افْضَلِ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيباً

allahumma ij`alni min afdali `ibadika nasiban<

O Allah, (please) shower upon me the best share of every good thing

فِي هٰذَا ٱلْيَوْمِ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَقْسِمُهُ

fi hadha alyawmi min khayrin taqsimuhu<

that You decide for Your servants on this day,

اوْ ضُرٍّ تَكْشِفُهُ

aw durrin takshifuhu<

such as harm that You decide to hold off,

اوْ سُوءٍ تَصْرِفُهُ

aw su'in tasrifuhu<

evil that You decide to ward off,

اوْ بَلاَءٍ تَدْفَعُهُ

aw bala'in tadfa`uhu<

ordeal that You decide to deter,

اوْ خَيْرٍ تَسُوقُهُ

aw khayrin tasuquhu<

grace that You decide to grant,

اوْ رَحْمَةٍ تَنْشُرُهَا

aw rahmatin tanshuruha<

item of mercy that You decide to distribute,

اوْ عَافِيَةٍ تُلْبِسُهَا

aw `afiyatin tulbisuha<

and item of wellbeing that You decide to cover up (on one of Your servants),

فَإِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

fa'innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun<

for You verily have power over all things,

وَبِيَدِكَ خَزَائِنُ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

wa biyadika khaza'inu alssamawati wal-ardi<

in Your hands lie the hoards of the heavens and the earth,

وَانْتَ ٱلْوَاحِدُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ ٱلْمُعْطِي

wa anta alwahidu alkarimu almu`ti<

You are verily the One, the All-generous, and the Best Bestower,

ٱلَّذِي لاَ يُرَدُّ سَائِلُهُ

alladhi la yuraddu sa'iluhu<

You are the One Whose beseechers are not rejected,

وَلاَ يُخَيَّبُ آمِلُهُ

wa la yukhayyabu amiluhu<

and You are the One Who never disappoint those who put hope in Him,

وَلاَ يَنْقُصُ نَائِلُهُ

wa la yanqusu na'iluhu<

the One Who is never influenced by the rewards that He bestows upon anyone,

وَلاَ يَنْفَدُ مَا عِنْدَهُ

wa la yanfadu ma `indahu<

and the One Whose possessions never run out;

بَلْ يَزْدَادُ كَثْرَةً وَطِيباً

bal yazdadu kathratan wa tiban<

rather, You always increase in quantity, excellent gift,

وَعَطَاءً وَجُوداً

wa `ata'an wa judan<

conferrals, and magnanimity.

وَٱرْزُقْنِي مِنْ خَزَائِنِكَ ٱلَّتِي لاَ تَفْنَىٰ

warzuqni min khaza'inika allati la tafna<

(Please) bestow upon me from Your hoards that never come to an end

وَمِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ ٱلْوَاسِعَةِ

wa min rahmatika alwasi`ati<

and from Your expansive mercy.

إِنَّ عَطَاءَكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَحْظُوراً

inna `ata'aka lam yakun mahzuran<

Your conferral shall never be confined

وَانْتَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

wa anta `ala kulli shay'in qadirun<

and You have power over all things;

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimina<

in the name of Your mercy; O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلسَّمَاءِ عَرْشُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose Throne is in the heavens.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلأَرْضِ حُكْمُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose dominion is on the earth.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلْقُبوُرِ قَضَاؤُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose decree is in the graves.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلْبَحْرِ سَبيلُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose ways are in oceans.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلنَّارِ سُلْطَانُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose authority is (clearly shown) in Hellfire.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلْجَنَّةِ رَحْمَتُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose mercy is in Paradise.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلْقِيَامَةِ عَدْلُهُ

Glory be to Him Whose justice is on the Resurrection Day.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي رَفَعَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ

Glory be to Him Who raised the skies.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي بَسَطَ ٱلأَرْضَ

Glory be to Him Who expanded the earth.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلَّذِي لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْهُ إِلاَّ إِلَيْهِ

Glory be to Him save Whom there is no shelter and no salvation.

اَللَّهُمَّ مَنْ تَعَبَّا وَتَهَيَّا

allahumma man ta`abba'a wa tahayya'a

O Allah, One may call up, prepare,

وَاعَدَّ وَٱسْتَعَدَّ

wa a`adda wasta`adda

ready oneself, and stand prepared

لِوِفَادَةٍ إِلَىٰ مَخْلُوقٍ

liwifadatin ila makhluqin

for purpose of coming to a creature

رَجَاءَ رِفْدِهِ

raja'a rifdihi

in the hope of gaining his aid

وَطَلَبَ نَائِلِهِ وَجَائِزَتِهِ

wa talaba na'ilihi wa ja'izatihi

and asking for his gift and present.

فَإلَيْكَ يَا رَبِّ تَعْبِيَتِي وَٱسْتِعْدَادِي

fa-ilayka ya rabbu ta`biyati wasti`dadi

As for myself, to You—O my Lord—I make my preparations and readiness

رَجَاءَ عَفْوِكَ

raja'a `afwika

hoping for Your pardon

وَطَلَبَ نَائِلِكَ وَجَائِزَتِكَ

wa talaba na'ilika wa ja'izatika

and asking for Your gift and present.

فَلاَ تُخَيِّبْ دُعَائي

fala tukhayyib du`a'i

So, (please) do not disappoint my entreaty.

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَخِيبُ عَلَيْهِ سَائِلٌ

ya man la yakhibu `alayhi sa'ilun

O He Who never disappoints His beseechers

وَلاَ يَنْقُصُهُ نَائِلٌ

wa la yanqusuhu na'ilun

and Whose prizes never decrease His ample-giving!

فَإنّي لَمْ آتِكَ ثِقَةً بِعَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ عَمِلْتُهُ

fa'inni lam atika thiqatan bi`amalin salihin `amiltuhu

I have not come to You with confidence of a righteous deed that I have done

وَلاَ لِوِفَادَةِ مَخْلُوقٍ رَجَوْتُهُ

wa la liwafadati makhluqin rajawtuhu

nor have I had any hope in a grant of any creature.

اتَيْتُكَ مُقِرّاً عَلَىٰ نَفْسِي بِٱلإسَاءَةِ وَٱلظُّلْمِ

ataytuka muqirran `ala nafsi bil-isa'ati walzzulmi

Rather, I have come to You professing myself to be evildoer and transgressor

مُعْتَرِفاً بِانْ لاَ حُجَّةَ لِي وَلاَ عُذْرَ

mu`tarifan bi-an la hujjata li wa la `udhra

and confessing that I lack any pretext or excuse.

اتَيْتُكَ ارْجُو عَظِيمَ عَفْوِكَ

ataytuka arju `azima `afwika

I have come to You hoping for Your great pardon

ٱلَّذِي عَفَوْتَ بِهِ عَنِ ٱلْخَاطِئينَ

alladhi `afawta bihi `ani (a)lkhati'ina

due to which You have pardoned the wrongdoers.

فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْكَ طُولُ عُكُوفِهِمْ عَلِي عَظِيمِ ٱلْجُرْمِ

falam yamna`ka tulu `ukufihim `ala `azimi aljurmi

Hence, their long-lasting retirement to their grave offenses has not prevented You

انْ عُدْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِٱلرَّحْمَةِ

an `udta `alayhim bilrrahmati

from turning to them with mercy.

فَيَا مَنْ رَحْمَتُهُ وَاسِعَةٌ

faya man rahmatuhu wasi`atun

O He Whose mercy is huge

وَعَفْوُهُ عَظيمٌ

wa `afwuhu `azimun

and Whose pardon is great;

يَا عَظيـمُ يَا عَظيـمُ يَا عَظيـمُ

ya `azimu ya `azimu ya `azimu

O All-great, O All-great, O All-great;

لاَ يَرُدُّ غَضَبَكَ إِلاَّ حِلْمُكَ

la yaruddu ghadabaka illa hilmuka

nothing can repel Your rage except Your forbearance

وَلاَ يُنْجِي مِنْ سَخَطِكَ إِلاَّ ٱلتَّضَرُّعُ إِلَيْكَ

wa la yunji min sakhatika illa alttadarru`u ilayka

and nothing can save from Your wrath except imploring earnestly to You.

فَهَبْ لِي يَا إِلٰهِي فَرَجاً

fahab li ya ilahi farajan

So, my God, (please) grant me a relief

بِٱلْقُدْرَةِ ٱلَّتِي تُحْيِي بِهَا مَيْتَ ٱلْبِلاَدِ

bilqudrati allati tuhyi biha mayta albiladi

in the name of the power through which You restore to life the derelict lands,

وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي غَمّاً حَتَّىٰ تَسْتَجِيبَ لِي

wa la tuhlikni ghamman hatta tastajiba li

and do not cause me to perish out of grief until You respond to me

وَتُعَرِّفَنِي ٱلإِجَابَةَ فِي دُعَائِي

wa tu`arrifani al-ijabata fi du`a'i

and show me signs of Your response to my prayers.

وَاذِقْنِي طَعْمَ ٱلْعَافِيَةِ إلَىٰ مُنَتَهَىٰ اجَلِي

wa adhiqni ta`ma al`afiyati ila muntaha ajali

(please) Make me taste the flavor of wellbeing up to the end of my lifetime,

وَلاَ تُشْمِتْ بِي عَدُوِّي

wa la tushmit bi `aduwwi

do not make my enemies gloat over me,

وَلاَ تُسَلِّطْهُ عَلَيَّ

wa la tusallithu `alayya

do not give them a hand over me,

وَلاَ تُمَكِّنْهُ مِنْ عُنُقِي

wa la tumakkinhu min `unuqi

and do not make them control over me.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ وَضَعْتَنِي فَمَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَرْفَعُنِي

allahumma in wada`tani faman dha alladhi yarfa`uni

O Allah, If You humiliate me, who can then exalt me?

وَإِنْ رَفَعْتَنِي فَمَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَضَعُنِي

wa in rafa`tani faman dha alladhi yada`uni

And if You exalt me, who can then humiliate me?

وَإِنْ اهْلَكْتَنِي فَمَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَعْرِضُ لَكَ فِي عَبْدِكَ

wa in ahlaktani faman dha alladhi ya`ridu laka fi `abdika

If You annihilate me, who can then interfere before You concerning the affair of me—Your slave

اوْ يَسْالُكَ عَنْ امْرِهِ

aw yas'aluka `an amrihi

or who can intercede to ask You about it?

وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ انَّهُ لَيْسَ فِي حُكْمِكَ ظُلْمٌ

wa qad `alimtu annahu laysa fi hukmika zulmun

I have already known for sure that Your decrees are devoid of injustice

وَلاَ فِي نَقَمَتِكَ عَجَلَةٌ

wa la fi naqimatika `ajalatun

and Your punishment does not count on immediateness.

وَإِنَّمَا يَعْجَلُ مَنْ يَخَافُ ٱلْفَوْتَ

wa innama ya`jalu man yakhafu alfawta

Verily, immediateness is the work of him who fears lest he may miss,

وَإِنَّمَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَىٰ ٱلظُّلْمِ ٱلضَّعِيفُ

wa innama yahtaju ila alzzulmi aldda`ifu

and only do the weak need injustice.

وَقَدْ تَعَالَيْتَ يَا إِلٰهِي عَنْ ذٰلِكَ عُلُوّاً كَبِيراً

wa qad ta`alayta ya ilahi `an dhalika `uluwwan kabiran

As for You, O my God, You are too exalted to be so—Exalted and Great You are beyond all measure!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اعُوذُ بِكَ فَاعِذْنِي

allahumma inni a`udhu bika fa-a`idhni

O Allah, I take refuge in You; so, (please) have protection upon me!

وَاسْتَجيرُ بِكَ فَاجِرْنِي

wa astajiru bika fa-ajirni

I call for Your safekeeping; so, (please) keep me under Your security!

وَاسْتَرْزِقُكَ فَٱرْزُقْنِي

wa astarziquka farzuqni

I appeal for Your sustenance; so, (please) provide me with sustenance!

وَاتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ فَٱكْفِنِي

wa atawakkalu `alayka fakfini

I put trust in You; so, (please) keep me under Your supervision!

وَاستَنْصِرُكَ عَلَىٰ عَدُوِّي فَٱنْصُرْنِي

wa astansiruka `ala `aduwwi fansurni

I call for Your aid against my enemy; so, (please) grant me support!

وَاسْتَعينُ بِكَ فَاعِنِّي

wa asta`inu bika fa-a`inni

I seek Your assistance; so, (please) assist me!

وَاسْتَغْفِرُكَ يَا إِلٰهِي فَٱغْفِرْ لِي

wa astaghfiruka ya ilahi faghfir li

I ask for Your forgiveness; so, (please) forgive me.

آمِينَ آمِينَ آمِينَ

amina amina amina

So, respond! Respond! Respond!
