  1. Eighteenth: Imam al-Baqir (`a) is reported to have instructed his brother, `Abdullah ibn `Ali, to say this supplicatory prayer:

    1

    اَللَّهُمَّ ٱرْفَعْ ظَنِّي صَاعِداً

    O Allah, (please) certify my expectation (of Your mercy) without disappointment,

    وَلاَ تُطْمِعْ فِيَّ عَدُوّاً وَلاَ حَاسِداً

    do not entice any enemy or envious one against me,

  3. 3

    وَٱحْفَظْنِي قَائِماً وَقَاعِداً

    and safeguard me in my standing up, sitting,

  4. 4

    وَيَقْظَاناً وَرَاقِداً

    waking, and sleeping.

    اَللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي

    O Allah, (please) forgive me, have mercy on me,

  6. 6

    وَٱهْدِنِي سَبِيلَكَ ٱلأَقْوَمَ

    guide me to Your straightest path,

  7. 7

    وَقِنِي حَرَّ جَهَنَّمَ

    guard me against the heat of Hellfire,

  8. 8

    وَٱحْطُطْ عَنِّي ٱلْمَغْرَمَ وَٱلْمَأْثَمَ

    release me from debts and sinning,

  9. 9

    وَٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ خِيَارِ ٱلْعَالَمِ

    and make me of the best creatures.
