Imam al-Sadiq (`a) has mentioned that whenever the Holy Prophet (s) went to sleep, he would recite ªyah al-Kursi and then say the following statement:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ

In the Name of Allah.
2

آمَنْتُ بِٱللَّهِ

I believe in Allah
3

وَكَفَرْتُ بِٱلطَّاغُوتِ

and disavow the false deity.
4

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱحْفَظْنِي فِي مَنَامِي وَفِي يَقَظَتِي

O Allah, (please) safeguard me in my sleep and in my waking.
