Al-Mufaddal ibn `Umar reported the following: Imam al-Sadiq (`a) said to me: If possible, you should not go to bed at night before you pray for the protection of the following
1أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s almightiness,
- 2
وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s omnipotence,
- 3
وَأَعُوذُ بِجَلاَلِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s majesty,
- 4
وَأَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s authority,
- 5
وَأَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s beauty,
- 6
وَأَعُوذُ بِدَفْعِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s defense,
- 7
وَأَعُوذُ بِمَنْعِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s guard,
- 8
وَأَعُوذُ بِجَمْعِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s wholeness,
- 9
وَأَعُوذُ بِمُلْكِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s control,
- 10
وَأَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ
I pray the protection of Allah’s face,
- 11
وَأَعُوذُ بِرَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
and I pray the protection of Allah’s Messenger,
- 12
صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
may Allah bless him and his Household,
- 13
مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ وَبَرَا وَذَرَا
against the evil of whatever He has created, originated, and made.
