Significance/Background of this Dua — DUA AL-SAYF AL-SAGHIR The Supplication of the Minor Sword.( FROM MAFATIH)Also called Du`a' al-Qamus (The Supplicatory prayer of the Ocean),Shaykh Mirza al-Nuri—may Allah honor his tomb—has mentioned this prayer in his book entitled al-Sahifah al-`Alawiyyah II, adding, "This supplication has been explained by the master scholars of talismans and spiritual sciences with strange words referring to marvelous effects ensuing from reciting it."

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bismi allahi alrrahmani alrrahimi

In the Name of Allah; the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

رَبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي فِي لُجَّةِ بَحْرِ أَحَدِيَّتِكَ

rabbi adkhilni fi lujjati bahri ahadiyyatika

O my Lord, include me with the profundity of the ocean of Your Oneness

وَطَمْطَامِ يَمِّ وَحْدَانِيَّتِكَ

wa tamtami yammi wahdaniyyatika

and in the enormity of the sea of Your singleness.

وَقَوِّنِي بِقُوَّةِ سَطْوَةِ سُلْطَانِ فَرْدَانِيَّتِكَ

wa qawwini biquwwati satwati sultani fardaniyyatika

Strengthen me with the strength of the influence of the authority of Your Uniqueness

حَتَّىٰ أَخْرُجَ إِلَىٰ فَضَاءِ سَعَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ

hatta akhruja ila fada'i saʿati rahmatika

so that when I come out to the space of the breadth of Your mercy,

وَفِي وَجْهِي لَمَعَاتُ بَرْقِ ٱلْقُرْبِ مِنْ آثَارِ حِمَايَتِكَ

wa fi wajhi lamaʿatu barqi alqurbi min athari himayatika

my face will have the twinkles of the shining of the nearness to the traces of Your protection,

مَهِيباً بِهَيْبَتِكَ

mahiban bihaybatika

being venerable out of Your venerability,

عَزِيزاً بِعِنَايَتِكَ

ʿazizan biʿinayatika

mighty out of Your care (for me),

مُتَجَلِّلاًَ مُكَرَّماً

mutajallilan mukarraman

esteemed, and honored

بِتَعْلِيمِكَ وَتَزْكِيَتِكَ

bitaʿlimika wa tazkiyatika

out of Your instruction and purity.

وَأَلْبِسْنِي خِلَعَ ٱلْعِزَّةِ وَٱلْقَبُولِ

wa albisni khilaʿa alʿizzati walqabuli

Dress me with the garments of dignity and tolerability,

وَسَهِّلْ لِي مَنَاهِجَ ٱلْوُصْلَةِ وَٱلْوُصُولِ

wa sahhil li manahija alwuslati walwusuli

make easy for me to attain the courses of communication and attainment (to You),

وَتَوِّجْنِي بِتَاجِ ٱلْكَرَامَةِ وَٱلْوَقَارِ

wa tawwijni bitaji alkaramati walwaqari

adorn me with the crown of decorum and solemnity,

وَأَلِّفْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ أَحِبَّائِكَ

wa allif bayni wa bayna ahibba'ika

and put affection between your beloved ones and me

فِي دَارِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَدَارِ ٱلْقَرَارِ

fi dari alddunya wa dari alqarari

in this worldly abode as well as the Abode of Enduring Settlement.

وَٱرْزُقْنِي مِنْ نُورِ ٱسْمِكَ هَيْبَةً وَسَطْوَةً

warzuqni min nuri ismika haybatan wa satwatan

Out of the illumination of Your Name, confer upon me with honor and authority

تَنْقَادُ لِيَ ٱلْقُلُوبُ وَٱلأَرْوَاحُ

tanqadu liya alqulubu wal-arwahu

due to which all hearts and souls will submit to me,

وَتَخْضَعُ لَدَيَّ ٱلنُّفُوسُ وَٱلأَشْبَاحُ

wa takhdaʿu ladayya alnnfusu wal-ashbahu

and all selves and ghosts will succumb to me.

يَا مَنْ ذَلَّتْ لَهُ رِقَابُ ٱلْجَبَابِرَةِ

ya man dhallat lahu riqabu aljababirati

O He to Whom all the tyrants surrender,

وَخَضَعَتْ لَدَيْهِ أَعْنَاقُ ٱلأَكَاسِرَةِ

wa khadaʿat ladayhi aʿnaqu al-akasirati

and before Whom all the kings submit!

لاَ مَلْجَأَ وَلاَ مَنْجَىٰ مِنْكَ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ

la malja'a wa la manjan minka illa ilayka

There in neither shelter nor refuge (to protect) against You save to You,

وَلاَ إِعَانَةَ إِلاَّ بِكَ

wa la iʿanata illa bika

there is no help save through You,

وَلاَ ٱتِّكَاءَ إِلاَّ عَلَيْكَ

wa la ittika'a illa ʿalayka

and there is no reliance save upon You.

إدْفَعْ عَنِّي كَيْدَ ٱلْحَاسِدِينَ

idfaʿ ʿanni kayda alhasidina

Repel against me the trickeries of the envious ones

وَظُلُمَاتِ شَرِّ ٱلْمُعَانِدِينَ

wa zulumati sharri almuʿanidina

and the murk of the evils of the stubborn ones.

وَٱرْحَمْنِي تَحْتَ سُرَادِقَاتِ عَرْشِكَ

warhamni tahta suradiqati ʿarshika

Have mercy upon me under the pavilion of Your Throne;

يَا أَكْرَمَ ٱلأَكْرَمِينَ

ya akrama al-akramina

O most Generous of all those who show generosity!

أَيِّدْ ظَاهِرِي فِي تَحْصِيلِ مَرَاضِيكَ

ayyid zahiri fi tahsili maradika

Aid my appearance to attain Your pleasure

وَنَوِّرْ قَلْبِي وَسِرِّي بِٱلاِطِّلاَعِ عَلَىٰ مَنَاهِجِ مَسَاعِيكَ

wa nawwir qalbi wa sirri bil-ittilaʿi ʿala manahiji masaʿika

and illuminate my heart and inner self by making me acquainted with the courses to acting for Your sake.

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ أَصْدُرُ عَنْ بَابِكَ بِخَيْبَةٍ مِنْكَ

ilahi kayfa asduru ʿan babika bikhaybatin minka

O my God, how does it come that I leave Your Door with disappointment

وَقَدْ وَرَدْتُهُ عَلَىٰ ثِقَةٍ بِكَ

wa qad waradtuhu ʿala thiqatin bika

after I had come to it with full faith in You?

وَكَيْفَ تُؤْيِسُنِي مِنْ عَطَائِكَ

wa kayfa tu'yisuni min ʿata'ika

How is it possible that You drive me to despair of Your endowment

وَقَدْ أَمَرْتَنِي بِدُعَائِكَ

wa qad amartani biduʿa'ika

after You have instructed me to pray to You?

وَهَا أَنَا مُقْبِلٌ عَلَيْكَ

wa ha ana muqbilun ʿalayka

Here I am coming to You

مُلْتَجِئٌ إِلَيْكَ

multaji'un ilayka

seeking shelter with You.

بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبيْنَ أَعْدَائِي

baʿid bayni wa bayna aʿda'i

Keep me far away from my enemies

كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ أَعْدَائي

kama baʿadta bayna aʿda'i

just as You have kept my enemies far away from one another.

إِخْتَطِفْ أَبْصَارَهُمْ عَنِّي

akhtatif absarahum ʿanni

Take their sights away from me

بِنُورِ قُدْسِكَ

binuri qudsika

through the Light of Your Holiness

وَجَلاَلِ مَجْدِكَ

wa jalali majdika

and the Grandeur of Your Glory.

إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ ٱللَّهُ

innaka anta allahu

You are verily Allah

ٱلْمُعْطِي جَلاَئِلَ ٱلنِّعَمِ ٱلْمُكَرَّمَةِ

almuʿti jala'ila alnniʿami almukarramati

Who confers with the splendid honoring graces

لِمَنْ نَاجَاكَ بِلَطَائِفِ رَحْمَتِكَ

liman najaka bilata'ifi rahmatika

upon those who secretly pray to You out of Your tremendous mercy.

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ

ya hayyu ya qayyumu

O Ever-living, O Self-subsisting,

يَا ذَا ٱلْجَلاَلِ وَٱلإِكْرَامِ

ya dhaljalali wal-ikrami

O Lord of Glory and Honor!

وَصَّلىٰ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّد

wa salla allahu ʿala sayyidina wa nabiyyina muhammadin

May Allah send blessings to our master and Prophet, Muhammad,

وَآلِهِ أَجْمَعينَ ٱلطَّيِّبينَ ٱلطَّاهِرينَ

wa alihi ajmaʿina alttayyibina alttahirina

and upon all of his Household—the purified and immaculate.
