Prayer for a fearful matter

Her supplication after ritual Prayer seeking relief from sorrow and grief: It is narrated from Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) that: My mother, Lady Fatima Zahra (s.a.) used to offer a Prayer, which Jibraeel had brought. In the first of its two units Surah Hamd and Surah Qadr is recited and in the second unit, Surah Hamd once and Surah Tauheed a hundred times. After the Prayer, Tasbih of Lady Fatima (s.a.) is recited. After that the knees are exposed and placed on the Prayer mat and the following supplication is recited and after that one’s needs are sought. Then invoke blessings on the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and then supplicate as follows:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اَتَوَجَّهُ اِلَيْكَ بِهِمْ،

allaahumma innee atawajjaho elayka behim,

O God, I turn to You through the mediation of Muhammad and Progeny of Muhammad

وَ اَتَوَسَّلُ اِلَيْكَ بِحَقِّهِمُ الْعَظِیْمِ،

wa atawassalo elayka behaqqehemul a’zeemil,

and I adjure by that right of theirs,

الَّذِيْ لَا يَعْلَمُ كُنْهَهٗ سِوَاكَ،

lazee laa ya’lamo kunhahu sewaaka,

whose reality is not known to anyone, except You.

وَ بِحَقِّ مَنْ حَقُّهٗ عِنْدَكَ عَظِيْمٌ،

wa behaqqe man haqqohu i’ndaka a’zeemun,

And I adjure by the rights of those,

وَ بِاَسْمَائِكَ الْحُسْنٰى وَ كَلِمَاتِكَ التَّامَّاتِ الَّتِيْ اَمَرْتَنِيْ اَنْ اَدْعُوَكَ بِهَا،

wa be-asmaa-ekal husnaa wa kalemaatekat taammaatil latee amartanee an ad-o’oka behaa,

whose right is great in your view and I adjure by your beautiful names and the perfect words through which You have commanded us to supplicate.

وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ الَّذِيْ اَمَرْتَ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ - ؑ - اَنْ يَدْعُوَ بِهِ الطَّيْرَ فَاَجَابَتْهُ.

wa as-aloka bismekal a’zeemil lazee amarta ibraaheema – a’layhis salaamo – an yad-o’wa behit tayra fa-ajaabatho.

And I adjure You by that name through which You commanded Ibrahim Khaleel to call the dead birds.

وَ بِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ الَّذِيْ قُلْتَ لِلنَّارِكُوْنِيْ بَرْدًا وَ سَلَامًا عَلٰى‏ اِبْراهِيْمَ فَكَانَتْ،

wa bismekal a’zeemil lazee qulta lin-naare koonee bardan wa salaaman a’laa ibraaheema fakaanat,

And by that great name, which You blew on fire and made it cool and safe.

وَ بِاَحَبِّ اَسْمَائِكَ اِلَيْكَ، وَ اَشْرَفِهَا عِنْدَكَ،

wa be-ahabbe asmaaeka elayka, wa ashrafehaa i’ndaka

And by your most loved, noble and great names,

وَ اَعْظَمِهَا لَدَيْكَ وَ اَسْرَعِهَا اِجَابَةً، وَ اَنْجَحِهَا طَلِبَةً،

wa a-a’zamehaa ladayka wa asra-e’haa ejaabatan,wa anjahehaa talebatan

through which supplication is accepted immediately and needs are fulfilled

وَ بِمَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهٗ وَ مُسْتَحِقُّهٗ وَ مُسْتَوْجِبُهٗ.

wa bemaa anta ahlohu wa mustahiqqohu wa mustawjebohu.

and which You are deserving of and owner of.

وَ اَتَوَسَّلُ اِلَيْكَ، وَ اَرْغَبُ اِلَيْكَ،

wa atawassalo elayka, wa arghabo elayka,

I seek mediation to You, I am attentive to You and I seek your help.

وَ اَتَصَدَّقُ مِنْكَ،

wa atasaddaqo minka,

And I seek bestowal and favor;

وَ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَ اَسْتَمْنِحُكَ،

wa astaghferoka wa astamnehoka,

and I am a petitioner;

وَ اَتَضَرَّعُ اِلَيْكَ،

wa atazarra-o’ elayka,

and I am humble

وَ اَخْضَعُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ،

wa akhza-o’ bayna yadayka,

and sincere before You,

وَ اَخْشَعُ لَكَ وَ اُقِرُّ لَكَ بِسُوْءِ صَنِيْعَتِي،

wa akhsha-o’ laka wa oqirro laka be-soo-e sanee-a’tee,

and I confess to my evil deeds .

وَ اَتَمَلَّقُكَ وَ اُلِحُّ عَلَيْكَ.

wa atamalloqoka wa olehho a’layka.

and I insist and persist before You

وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِكُتُبِكَ الَّتِيْ اَنْزَلْتَهَا عَلٰى اَنْبِيَائِكَ وَ رُسُلِكَ،

wa as-aloka bekotobekal latee anzaltahaa a’laa anbeyaa-eka wa rosoleka,

I adjure by your Books that You revealed on the prophets and messengers

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ،

salawaatoka a’layhim ajma-e’ena,

(your blessings and mercy be on them all).

مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَ الْاِنْجِيْلِ وَ الْقُرْآنِ الْعَظِيْمِ،

menat tawraate wal injeele wal qur-aanil a’zeeme,

That is Taurat, Injeel and the great Quran

مِنْ اَوَّلِهَا اِلٰى آخِرِهَا،

min awwalehaa elaa aakherehaa,

from its beginning till its end.

فَاِنَّ فِيْهَا اسْمَكَ الْاَعْظَمَ،

fa-inna feehas makal a-a’zama,

As it contains your great name and your beautiful names,

وَ بِمَا فِيْهَا مِنْ اَسْمَائِكَ الْعُظْمٰى اَتَقَرَّبُ اِلَيْكَ،

wa bemaa feehaa min asmaa-ekal u’zmaa ataqarrabo elayka,

through which I seek your proximity.

وَ اَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِهٖ،

wa as-aloka an tosalleya a’laa mohammadin wa aalehi,

I beseech You to bless Muhammad and progeny of Muhammad and remove their grief and sorrow and through their intercession,

وَ اَنْ تُفَرِّجَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِهٖ وَ تَجْعَلَ فَرَجِيْ مَقْرُوْنًا بِفَرَجِهِمْ،

wa an tofarreja a’n mohammadin wa aalehi wa taj-a’la farajee maqroonan be-farajehim,

remove my grief and sorrow as well,

(وَ تُقَدِّمَهُمْ فِيْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ) وَ تَبْدَاَ بِهِمْ فِيْهِ،

(wa toqaddemahum fee kulle khayrin) wa tabda-a behim feehe,

and keep them at the forefront in every good,

وَ تَفْتَحَ اَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ لِدُعَائِيْ فِيْ هٰذَا الْيَوْمِ،

wa taftaha abwaabas samaa-e le-do-a’a-ee fee haazal yawme,

and begin this only with them and today open the gates of heavens for my supplications

وَ تَاْذَنَ فِيْ هٰذَا الْيَوْمِ وَ هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ بِفَرَجِيْ،

wa taazana fee haazal yawme wa haazehil laylate befarajee,

and today and tonight command peace for me

وَ اِعْطَائِيْ سُؤْلِيْ وَ اَمَلِیْ فِيْ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ،

wa e-a’taa-ee soalee wa amalee fid dunyaa wal aakherate,

and fulfillment of all my demands as

فَقَدْ مَسَّنِيَ الْفَقْرُ،

faqad massaneyal faqro,

poverty has besieged me

وَ نَالَنِي الضُّرُّ،

wa naalaniz zurro,

and difficulties surround me.

وَ سَلَّمَتْنِي الْخَصَاصَةُ وَ اَلْجَاَتْنِيْ الْحَاجَةُ،

wa salla-matnil khasaasato wa al-ja-atnil haajato,

Needs have turned me over to You and needs have made me a refugee.

وَ تَوَسَّمْتُ بِالذِّلَّةِ،

wa tawassamto biz-zillate,

Humiliation has targeted

وَ غَلَبَتْنِي الْمَسْكَنَةُ،

wa ghalabatnil maskanato,

and poverty had overpowered,

وَ حَقَّتْ عَلَيَّ الْكَلِمَةُ،

wa haqqat a’layyal kalemato,

and your word is proved true

وَ اَحَاطَتْ بِيَ الْخَطِيْئَةُ،

wa ahaatat beyal khatee-ato,

and mistakes have surrounded me.

وَ هٰذَا الْوَقْتُ الَّذِيْ وَعَدْتَ اَوْلِيَاءَكَ فِيْهِ الْاِجَابَةَ.

wa haazal waqtul lazee wa-a’dta awleyaa-aka feehil ejaabata.

This is the time, when You promised acceptance to your friends.

فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِهٖ،

fa-salle a’laa mohammadin wa aalehi,

bless Muhammad and progeny of Muhammad

وَ امْسَحْ مَا بِيْ بِيَمِيْنِكَ الشَّافِيَةِ،

wam sah maa bee be-yameenekash shaafeyate,

and remove my difficulties through your curative hands

وَ انْظُرْ اِلَيَّ بِعَيْنِكَ الرَّاحِمَةِ،

wan zur elayya be-a’ynekar rahmate,

and look upon me with mercy

وَ اَدْخِلْنِيْ فِيْ رَحْمَتِكَ الْوَاسِعَةِ،

wa adkhilnee fee rahmatekal waase-a’te,

and admit me in your wide mercy.

وَ اَقْبِلْ اِلَيَّ بِوَجْهِكَ الَّذِيْ اِذَا اَقْبَلْتَ بِهٖ عَلٰى اَسِيْرٍ فَكَكْتَهٗ،

wa aqbil elayya be-wajhekal lazee ezaa aq-balta behi a’laa aseerin fakaktahu,

Turn your towards me, which if it is turned to the prisoner, he is freed.

وَ عَلٰى ضَالٍّ هَدَيْتَهٗ،

wa a’laa zaallin hadaytahu,

And if it is turned to the misguided, he becomes guided.

وَ عَلٰى جَائِزٍ اَدَّيْتَهٗ وَ عَلٰى فَقِیْرٍ اَغْنَيْتَهٗ،

wa a’laa jaa-ezin addaytahu wa a’laa faqeerin aghnaytahu,

And if it is turned to the perplexed, he is freed from perplexity. And if it is turned to the destitute, he becomes affluent.

وَ عَلٰى ضَعِيْفٍ قَوَّيْتَهٗ،

wa a’laa za-e’efin qawwaytahu,

If it is turned to the weak, he becomes strong.

وَ عَلٰى خَائِفٍ اٰمَنْتَهٗ،

wa a’laa khaa-efin aamantahu,

If it is turned to the fearful, he is granted security.

وَ لَا تُخْلِنِيْ لِقَاءَ عَدُوِّكَ وَ عَدُوِّيْ،

wa laa tukhlenee leqaa-a a’duwweka wa a’duwwee,

O God, allow my and your enemy to meet me,

يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْاِكْرَامِ.

yaa zal jalaale wal ikraame.

O owner of might and majesty.

يَا مَنْ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَيْفَ هُوَ،

yaa man laa ya’lamo kayfa howa,

O One, whose reality, position

وَ حَيْثُ هُوَ وَ قُدْرَتَهٗ اِلَّا هُوَ،

wa hayso howa wa qudratahu illaa howa,

and power is not known to anyone,except Him

يَا مَنْ سَدَّ الْهَوَاءَ بِالسَّمَاءِ،

yaa man saddal hawaa-a bis-samaa-e,

O One, who has confined the atmosphere by the sky

وَ كَبَسَ الْاَرْضَ عَلَى الْمَاءِ،

wa kabasal arza a’lal maa-e,

and placed the earth on water

وَ اخْتَارَ لِنَفْسِهٖ اَحْسَنَ الْاَسْمَاءِ.

wakh taara lenafsehi ahsanal asmaa-e.

and chose the best names for Himself.

يَا مَنْ سَمّٰى نَفْسَهٗ بِالْاِسْمِ الَّذِيْ بِهٖ تَقْضِيْ حَاجَةَ كُلِّ طَالِبٍ يَدْعُوْهُ بِهٖ.

yaa man sammaa nafsahu bil-ismil lazee behi taqzee haajata kulle taalebin yad-o’oho behi.

O that God, who adopted for Himself every that name through which He fulfills the needs of all those, who pray through them.

وَ اَسْاَلُكَ بِذٰلِكَ الْاِسْمِ،

wa as-aloka be-zaalekal isme,

I beseech You through the mediation of your names

فَلَا شَفِيْعَ اَقْوٰى لِيْ مِنْهُ،

falaa shafee-a’ aqwaa lee minho,

as I have no intercessor stronger than this.

وَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ (اَسْاَلُكَ) اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

wa be-haqqe mohammadin wa aale mohammadin (as-aloka) an tosalleya a’laa mohammadin wa aale mohammadin,

And I adjure You by the right of Muhammad and progeny of Muhammad that You bless Muhammad and progeny of Muhammad

وَ اَنْ تَقْضِيَ لِيْ حَوَائِجِيْ،

wa an taqzeya lee hawaa-ejee,

and fulfill all my pleas.

وَ تُسْمِعَ مُحَمَّدًا وَ عَلِيًّا وَ فَاطِمَةَ،

wa tusme-a’ mohammadan wa a’liyyan wa faatemata,

And make my plea reach upto His Eminence Muhammad, Ali Fatima

وَ الْحَسَنَ وَ الْحُسَيْنَ وَ عَلِيًّا وَ مُحَمَّدًا،

wal hasana wal husayna wa a’liyyan wa mohammadan,

Hassan Hussain Ali Muhammad

وَ جَعْفَرًا وَ مُوسٰى،

wa ja’faran wa moosaa,

Jafar Musa

وَ عَلِيًّا وَ مُحَمَّدًا وَ عَلِيًّا،

wa a’liyyan wa mohammadan wa a’liyyan,

Ali Muhammad Ali

وَ الْحَسَنَ وَ الْحُجَّةَ - صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ بَرَكَاتُكَ وَ رَحْمَتُكَ – صَوْتِيْ،

wal hasana wal hujjata – salawaatoka a’layhim wa barakaatoka wa rahmatoka – sawtee,

Hasan and Hujjat Qaim [your blessings and mercy be on them all],

فَيَشْفَعُوْا لِيْ اِلَيْكَ وَ تُشَفِّعَهُمْ فِيَّ،

fayashfa-o’o lee elayka wa toshaf-fe-a’hum fiyya,

so that they may be able to recommend my case in your court and You allow them to intercede for me.

وَ لَا تَرُدَّنِيْ خَائِبًا،

wa laa toraddanee khaa-eban,

And don’t turn me away in despair,

بِحَقِّ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ،

be-haqqe laa elaaha illaa anta,

I adjure You by ‘there is no god, except Allah’ and

وَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

wa be-haqqe mohammadin wa aale mohammadin,

I adjure You by Muhammad and progeny of Muhammad,

صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،

salle a’laa mohammadin wa aale mohammadin,

Bless Muhammad and his progeny

وَ افْعَلْ بِيْ ’’كَذَا وَ كَذَا‘‘ يَا كَرِيْمُ.

waf a’l bee ‘kazaa wa kazaa’ yaa kareemo.

conduct with me ‘as follows’, O merciful God.
