  1. 1

2.O He to the remembrance of whose beneficence the distressed flee!

  2. 2

3.O He in fear of whom the offenders weep!

  3. 3

4.O Comfort of every lonely stranger!

  4. 4

5.O Relief of all who are downcast and distressed!

  5. 5

6.O Aid of everyone abandoned and alone!

  6. 6

7.O Support of every needy outcast!

  7. 7

8.You art He who "embracest everything in mercy and knowledge"! (40:7)

  8. 8

9.You art He who hast appointed for each creature a share of Your favours!

  9. 9

10.You art He whose pardon is higher than His punishment!

  10. 10

11.You art He whose mercy runs before His wrath!

  11. 11

12.You art He whose bestowal is greater than His withholding!

  12. 12

13.You art He by whose mercy all creatures are embraced!

  13. 13

14.You art He who desires no repayment by him upon whom He bestows!

  14. 14

15.You art He who does not overdo the punishment of him who disobeys You!

  15. 15

16.And I, my God, am Your servant whom You commanded to supplicate and who said:

  16. 16

17.I am at Your service and disposal! Here am I, my Lord, thrown down before You.

  17. 17

18.I am he whose back offenses have weighed down!

  18. 18

19.I am he whose lifetime sins have consumed!

  19. 19

20.I am he who was disobedient in his ignorance, while You didst not deserve that from him!

  20. 20

21.Wilt Thou, my God, be merciful toward him who supplicates You, that I should bring my supplication before You?

  21. 21

22.Wilt You forgive him who weeps to You that I should hurry to weep?

  22. 22

23.Wilt You show forbearance toward him who puts his face in the dust before You in lowliness?

  23. 23

24.Wilt You free from need him who complains to You of his indigent need with confidence?

  24. 24

25.My God, disappoint not him who finds no bestower other than You,

  25. 25

26.and abandon not him who cannot be freed from his need for You through less than You!

  26. 26

27.My God, so bless Muhammad and his Household,

  27. 27

28.turn not away from me when I have turned my face toward You,

  28. 28

29.deprive me not when 1 have besought You,

  29. 29

30.and slap not my brow with rejection when I have stood before You!

  30. 30

31.You art He who has described Himself by mercy,

  31. 31

32.so bless Muhammad and his Household and have mercy upon me!

  32. 32

33.You art He who has named Himself by pardon so pardon me!

  33. 33

34.You hast seen, my God, the flow of my tears in fear of You,

  34. 34

35.the throbbing of my heart in dread of You,

  35. 35

36.and the infirmity of my limbs in awe of You.

  36. 36

37.All this from my shame before You because of my evil works!

  37. 37

38.So my voice has become silent, no longer crying to You,

  38. 38

39.and my tongue has gone dumb, no longer whispering in prayer.

  39. 39

40.My God, so to You belongs praise! How many of my flaws You hast covered over without exposing me!

  40. 40

41.How many of my sins You hast cloaked without making me notorious!

  41. 41

42.How many faults I have committed, yet You didst not tear away from me their covering,

  42. 42

43.collar me with their detested disgrace,

  43. 43

44.or make their dishonour plain to those of my neighbours who search for my defects

  44. 44

45.and to those who envy Your favour toward me!

  45. 45

46.But that did not prevent me from passing on to the evil that You knowest from me!

  46. 46

47.So who is more ignorant than I, my God, of his own right conduct?

  47. 47

48.Who is more heedless than I of his own good fortune?

  48. 48

49.Who is further than I from seeking to set himself right?

  49. 49

50.For I spend the provision You deliverest to me

  50. 50

51.in the disobedience You hast prohibited to me!

  51. 51

52.Who sinks more deeply into falsehood and is more intensely audacious in evil than I?

  52. 52

53.For I hesitate between Your call and the call of Satan

  53. 53

54.and then follow his call without being blind in my knowledge of him

  54. 54

55.or forgetful in my memory of him, while I am certain

  55. 55

56.that Your call takes to the Garden and his call takes to the Fire!

  56. 56

57.Glory be to You! How marvellous the witness I bear

  57. 57

58.against my own soul and the enumeration of my own hidden affairs!

  58. 58

59.And more marvellous than that is Your lack of haste with me,

  59. 59

60.Your slowness in attending to me! That is not because I possess

  60. 60

61.honour with You, but because You waitest patiently for me

  61. 61

    62.and art bountiful toward me

  62. 62

63.that I may refrain from disobedience displeasing to You

  63. 63

64.and abstain from evil deeds that disgrace me,

  64. 64

65.and because You lovest to pardon me more than to punish!

  65. 65

66.But I, my God, am more numerous in sins,

  66. 66

67.uglier in footsteps, more repulsive in acts,

  67. 67

68.more reckless in rushing into falsehood,

  68. 68

69.weaker in awakening to Your obedience,

  69. 69

70.and less attentive and heedful toward Your threats,

  70. 70

71.than that I could number for You my faults

  71. 71

72.or have the power to recount my sins.

  72. 72

73.I only scold my own soul, craving Your gentleness,

  73. 73

74.through which the affairs of sinners are set right,

  74. 74

75.and hoping for Your mercy, through which the necks of the offenders are freed.

  75. 75

76.O God, this is my neck, enslaved by sins,

  76. 76

77.so bless Muhammad and his Household and release it through Your pardon!

  77. 77

78.This is my back, weighed down by offenses,

  78. 78

79.so bless Muhammad and his Household and lighten it through Your kindness!

  79. 79

80.My God, were I to weep to You until my eyelids drop off,

  80. 80

81.wail until my voice wears out,

  81. 81

82.stand before You until my feet swell up,

  82. 82

83.bow to You until my backbone is thrown out of joint,

  83. 83

84.prostrate to You until my eyeballs fall out,

  84. 84

85.eat the dirt of the earth for my whole life,

  85. 85

86.drink the water of ashes till the end of my days,

  86. 86

87.mention You through all of that until my tongue fails,

  87. 87

88.and not lift my glance to the sky's horizons in shame before You,

  88. 88

89.yet would I not merit through all of that the erasing of a single one of my evil deeds!

  89. 89

90.Though You forgivest me when I merit Your forgiveness

  90. 90

91.and pardonest me when I deserve Your pardon,

  91. 91

92.yet I have no title to that through what I deserve,

  92. 92

93.nor am I worthy of it through merit,

  93. 93

    إذْ كَـانَ جَزَائِي مِنْكَ فِي أَوَّلِ مَا عَصَيْتُكَ النَّارَ;

94.since my repayment from You from the first that I disobeyed You is the Fire!

  94. 94

95.So if You punishest me, You dost me no wrong.

  95. 95

96.My God, since You hast shielded me with Your covering and not exposed me,

  96. 96

97.waited patiently for me through Your generosity, and not hurried me to punishment,

  97. 97

98.and shown me clemency through Your bounty, and not changed Your favour upon me

  98. 98

99.or muddied Your kindly acts toward me,

  99. 99

100.have mercy on my drawn out pleading, my intense misery, and my evil situation!

  100. 100

101.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

  101. 101

102.protect me from acts of disobedience, employ me in obedience,

  102. 102

103.provide me with excellent turning back [to You], purify me through repentance,

  103. 103

104.strengthen me through preservation from sin, set me right through well being,

  104. 104

105.let me taste the sweetness of forgiveness,

  105. 105

106.make me the freedman of Your pardon and the slave released by Your mercy,

  106. 106

107.and write for me a security from Your displeasure!

  107. 107

108.Give me the good news of that in the immediate, not the deferred - a good news I recognize -

  108. 108

109.and make known to me therein a sign which I may clearly see!

  109. 109

110.That will not constrain You in Your plenty,

  110. 110

    111.distress You in Your power,

  111. 111
