Sahifa Sajjadiya 27: Prayer for People of the Frontiers

1

وَحَصِّنْ ثُغُورَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِعِزَّتِكَ،

2.fortify the frontiers of the Muslims through Your might,

2

وَأَيِّدْ حُمَاتَهَا بِقُوَّتِكَ،

3.support their defenders through Your strength,

3

وَأَسْبغَ عَطَايَاهُمْ مِنْ جِدَتِكَ.

4.and lavish upon them gifts through Your wealth!

4

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

5.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

5

وَكَثِّرْ عِدَّتَهُمْ، وَاشْحَذْ أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ،

6.increase their number, hone their weapons,

6

وَاحْرُسْ حَوْزَتَهُمْ، وَامْنَعْ حَوْمَتَهُمْ،

7.guard their territory, defend their midst,

7

وَأَلِّفْ جَمْعَهُمْ، وَدَبِّرْ أَمْرَهُمْ،

8.unite their throng, arrange their affair,

8

وَوَاتِرْ بَيْنَ مِيَرِهِمْ، وَتَوَحَّدْ بِكِفَايَةِ مَؤَنِهِمْ،

9.send them supplies in a steady string, undertake Yourself to suffice them with provisions,

9

وَاعْضُدْهُمْ بِالنَّصْرِ، وَأَعْنِهُمْ بِالصَّبْرِ،

10.support them with victory, help them with patience,

10

وَالْطُفْ لَهُمْ فِي الْمَكْرِ.

11.and give them subtlety in guile!

11

أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

12.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

12

وَعَرِّفْهُمْ مَا يَجْهَلُونَ،

13.give them the knowledge of that of which they are ignorant,

13

وَعَلِّمْهُمْ مَا لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ،

14.teach them what they do not know,

14

وَبَصِّرْهُمْ مَا لاَ يُبْصِرُونَ

15.and show them what they do not see!

15

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

16.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

16

وَأَنْسِهِمْ عِنْدَ لِقَآئِهِمُ الْعَدُوَّ

17.make them forget when they meet the enemy

17

ذِكْرَ دُنْيَاهُمُ الْخَدَّاعَةِ الْغَرُورِ،

18.to remember this cheating and delusive world of theirs,

18

وَامْحُ عَنْ قُلُوبِهِمْ خَطَرَاتِ الْمَالِ الْفَتُونِ،

19.erase from their hearts the thought of enchanting possessions,

19

وَاجْعَلِ الْجَنَّةَ نَصْبَ أَعْيُنِهِمْ وَلَوِّحْ مِنْهَا لأِبْصَارِهِمْ

20.place the Garden before their eyes, and display to their sight that part of it

20

مَا أَعْدَدْتَ فِيهَا مِنْ مَسَاكِنِ الْخُلْدِ وَمَنَازِلِ الْكَرَامَةِ

21.which You hast prepared for them - the homes of everlastingness and mansions of honour,

21

وَالْحُورِ الْحِسَانِ وَالأَنْهَارِ الْمُطَّرِدَةِ بِأَنْوَاعِ الأَشْرِبَـةِ ،

22.the beautiful houris, the rivers gushing forth with all sorts of drinks,

22

وَالأَشْجَارِ الْمُتَدَلِّيَةِ بِصُنُوفِ الثَّمَرِ،

23.the trees hanging, low with all kinds of fruits -

23

حَتَّى لاَ يَهُمَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ بِالأدْبَارِ،

24.lest any of them think of turning his back

24

وَلا يُحَدِّثَ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ قِرْنِهِ بِفِرَار.

25.or suggest to himself to flee his opponent!

25

أللَّهُمَّ افْلُلْ بِذَلِـكَ عَدُوَّهُمْ،

26.O God, defeat their enemy through that,

26

وَاقْلِمْ عَنْهُمْ أَظْفَارَهُمْ، وَفَرِّقْ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ أَسْلِحَتِهِمْ ،

27.trim their nails from them, separate them from their weapons,

27

وَاخْلَعْ وَثَائِقَ أَفْئِدَتِهِمْ، وَبَاعِدْ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ أَزْوِدَتِهِمْ،

28.pull out the firm ties from their hearts, keep them far away from their stores,

28

وَحَيِّرْهُمْ فِي سُبُلِهِمْ، وَضَلِّلْهُمْ عَنْ وَجْهِهِمْ،

29.bewilder them in their roads, turn them astray from their direction,

29

وَاقْـطَعْ عَنْهُمُ الْمَدَدَ وَانْقُصْ مِنْهُمُ الْعَدَدَ،

30.cut off reinforcements from them, chop them down in numbers,

30

وَامْلاْ أَفْئِدَتَهُمُ الرُّعْبَ، وَاقْبِضْ أَيْـدِيَهُمْ عَنِ البَسْطِ،

31.fill their hearts with terror, hold back their hands from stretching forth,

31

وَاخْـزِمْ أَلْسِنَتَهُمْ عَنِ النُّطْقِ،

32.tie back their tongues from speaking,

32

وَشَرِّدْ بهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ، وَنَكِّلْ بِهِمْ مَنْ وَرَاءَهُمْ،

33."scatter by them the ones behind them" (8:57), make them a lesson for those beyond them,

33

وَاقْـطَعْ بِخِزْيِهِمْ أَطْمَـاعَ مَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ.

34.and through their degradation cut off the hopes of those who come after them!

34

أللَّهُمَّ عَقِّمْ أَرْحَامَ نِسَائِهِمْ،

35.O God, make the wombs of their women barren

35

وَيَبِّسْ أَصْلاَبَ رِجَالِهِمْ،

36.dry up the loins of their men,

36

وَاقْطَعْ نَسْلَ دَوَابِّهِمْ وَأَنْعَامِهِمْ،

37.cut off the breeding of their mounts and their cattle,

37

لاَ تَأذَنْ لِسَمَائِهِمْ فِي قَطْر وَلاَ لارْضِهِمْ فِي نَبَات.

38.and permit not their sky to rain or their earth to grow!

38

أللَّهُمَّ وَقَوِّ بِذَلِكَ مِحَالَّ أَهْلِ الإسْلاَمِ ،

39.O God, through that strengthen the prowess of the People of Islam,

39

وَحَصِّنْ بِهِ دِيَارَهُمْ ، وَثَمِّرْ بِـهِ أَمْوَالَهُمْ ،

40.fortify their cities, increase their properties,

40

وَفَرِّغْهُمْ عَنْ مُحَارَبَتِهِمْ لِعِبَادَتِكَ وَعَنْ مُنَابَذَتِهِمْ للْخَلْوَةِ بِكَ،

41.give them ease from their fighting to worship You and from their warfare to be alone with You,

41

حَتَّى لا يُعْبَدَ فِي بِقَاعِ الارْضِ غَيْرُكَ

42.so that none will be worshipped in the regions of the earth but You

42

وَلاَ تُعَفَّرَ لاَِحَد مِنْهُمْ جَبْهَةٌ دُونَكَ.

43.and no forehead of theirs may be rubbed in dust for less than You!

43

أللَّهُمَّ اغزُ بِكُلِّ نَـاحِيَـة مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

44.O God, send out the Muslims of every region on raids

44

عَلَى مَنْ بِـإزَائِهِمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ،

45.against the idolaters who face them!

45

وَأَمْدِدْهُمْ بِمَلائِكَة مِنْ عِنْدِكَ مُرْدِفِينَ

46.Reinforce them with angels in ranks from You,

46

حَتَّى يَكْشِفُـوهُمْ إلَى مُنْقَطَعِ التُّـرابِ قَتْـلاً فِي أَرْضِكَ

47.till the idolaters are routed by them to the end of the land, slain in Your earth

47

وَأَسْراً أَوْ يُقِرُّوا بِأَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللهُ الَّذِي لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ

48.or taken captive, or till they admit that You art God, other than whom there is no god,

48

وَحْدَكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ.

49.You alone, who hast no associate!

49

أللَّهُمَّ وَاعْمُمْ بِذَلِكَ أَعْدَاءَكَ فِي أَقْطَارِ الْبِلاَدِ

50.O God, include in this Your enemies in the regions of the lands,

50

مِنَ الْهِنْدِ وَالرُّومِ وَالتُّـرْكِ وَالْخَزَرِ وَالْحَبَشِ

51.the Indians, the Byzantines, the Turks, the Khazars, the Abyssinians,

51

وَالنُّـوبَةِ وَالـزَّنْج والسَّقَالِبَةِ وَالدَّيَالِمَةِ

52.the Nubians, the Zanjis, the Slavs, the Daylamites,

52

وَسَائِرِ أُمَمِ الشِّرْكِ الَّذِي تَخْفَى أَسْمَاؤُهُمْ وَصِفاتُهُمْ،

53.and the rest of the idol-worshipping nations, those whose names and attributes are concealed,

53

وَقَدْ أَحْصَيْتَهُمْ بِمَعْرِفَتِكَ، وَأَشْرَفْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِقُدْرَتِكَ.

54.but whom You countest in Your cognizance and overseest through Your power!

54

أللَّهُمَّ اشْغَلِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِالمُشْرِكِينَ عَنْ تَنَاوُلِ أَطْرَافِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ،

55.O God, distract the idolaters from reaching for the borders of the Muslims through the idolaters,

55

وَخُذْهُمْ بِـالنَّقْصِ عَنْ تَنَقُّصِهِمْ،

56.bar them from cutting them down through being cut down,

56

وَثَبِّطْهُمْ بِـالْفُـرْقَـةِ عَنِ الاحْتِشَادِ عَلَيْهِمْ.

57.and hold them back from massing together against them through dissension!

57

أللَّهُمَّ أَخْلِ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنَ الأَمَنَـةِ

58.O God, empty their hearts of security

58

وَأَبْدَانَهُمْ مِنَ الْقُوَّةِ وَأَذْهِلْ قُلُوبَهُمْ عَنِ الاحْتِيَالِ

59.and their bodies of strength, distract their hearts from thinking of stratagems,

59

وَأَوْهِنْ أَرْكَانَهُمْ عَنْ مُنَازَلَةِ الرِّجَالِ

60.make their limbs too feeble for clashing with men,

60

وَجَبِّنْهُمْ عَنْ مُقَارَعَةِ الأَبْطَالِ،

61.make them too cowardly for contending with champions,

61

وَابْعَثْ عَلَيْهِمْ جُنْداً مِنْ مَلاَئِكَتِكَ

62.send against them a troop of Your angels

62

بِبَأس مِنْ بَأْسِكَ كَفِعْلِكَ يَوْمَ بَدْر

63.with some of Your severity as You didst on the Day of Badr,

63

تَقْطَعُ بِهِ دَابِرَهُمْ وَتَحْصُدُ بِهِ شَوْكَتَهُمْ،

64.so that through it You mayest cut off their roots, harvest their thorns,

64

وَتُفَرِّقُ بهِ عَدَدَهُمْ.

65.and disperse their number!

65

اللَّهُمَّ وَامْزُجْ مِيَاهَهُمْ بِالْوَبَاءِ وَأطْعِمَتَهُمْ بِالأَدْوَاءِ

66.O God, mix their waters with pestilence and their foods with maladies,

66

وَارْمِ بِلاَدَهُمْ بِالْخُسُوفِ وَأَلِـحَّ عَلَيْهَا بِـالْقُذُوفِ وَافْـرَعْهَا بِالْمُحُولِ.

67.hurl down their cities, harass them with peltings, hinder them through drought,

67

وَاجْعَلْ مِيَرَهُمْ فِي أَحَصِّ أَرْضِكَ وَأَبْعَـدِهَا عَنْهُمْ،

68.place their supplies in the most ill-omened part of Your earth and the farthest from them,

68

وَامْنَـعْ حُصُونَهَا مِنْهُمْ، أَصِبْهُمْ بِالْجُوعِ الْمُقِيمِ وَالسُّقْمِ الالِيمِ.

69.bar them from its fortresses, and strike them with constant hunger and painful illness!

69

أللَّهُمَّ وَأَيُّمَا غَاز غَزَاهُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ مِلَّتِكَ

70.O God, if a warrior from the people of Your creed wars against them

70

أَوْ مُجَاهِد جَاهَدَهُمْ مِنْ أَتْبَاعِ سُنَّتِكَ لِيَكُونَ دِينُكَ الاعْلَى

71.or a struggler from the followers of Your prescriptions struggles against them so that Your religion may be the highest,

71

وَحِزْبُكَ الأقوَى وَحَظُّكَ الأوْفَى فَلَقِّهِ الْيُسْرَ،

72.Your party the strongest, and Your share the fullest, cast ease to him,

72

وَهَيِّئْ لَهُ الأمْرَ، وَتَوَلَّهُ بِالنُّجْحِ،

73.arrange his affair, attend to him by granting success,

73

وَتَخَيَّرْ لَهُ الأصْحَابَ، وَاسْتَقْوِ لَهُ الظَّهْرَ،

74.select for him his companions, strengthen his back,

74

وَأَسْبِغْ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّفَقَةِ وَمَتِّعْهُ بِالنَّشَاطِ،

75.lavish upon him livelihood, give him enjoyment of joyous vitality,

75

وَأَطْفِ عَنْهُ حَرَارَةَ الشَّوْقِ، وَأَجِرْهُ مِنْ غَمِّ الْوَحْشَةِ،

76.cool for him the heat of yearning, give him sanctuary from the gloom of loneliness,

76

وَأَنْسِهِ ذِكْرَ الاهْلِ وَالْوَلَدِ وَأَثُرْ لَهُ حُسْنَ النِّيَّةِ وَتَوَلَّه بِالْعَافِيَةِ،

77.make him forget the remembrance of wife and child, pass along to him an excellent intention, attend to him with well-being,

77

وَأَصْحِبْهُ السَّلاَمَةَ، وَأَعْفِهِ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ،

78.make safety his companion, release him from cowardice,

78

وَأَلْهِمْهُ الْجُرْأَةَ وَارْزُقْهُ الشِّدَّةَ وَأَيِّدْهُ بِالنُّصْرَةِ،

79.inspire him with boldness, provide him with strength, support him with help,

79

وَعَلِّمْهُ السِّيَرَ وَالسُّنَنَ، وَسَدِّدْهُ فِي الْحُكْمِ،

80.teach him right conduct and the norms of the Sunna, point him straight in judgement,

80

وَاعْزِلْ عَنْهُ الرِّياءَ، وخَلِّصْهُ مِنَ السُّمْعَةِ

81.remove from him hypocrisy, purify him from seeking fame,

81

وَاجْعَلْ فِكْرَهُ وَذِكْرَهُ وَظَعْنَهُ وَإقَامَتَهُ فِيْكَ وَلَكَ،

82.and make his thinking and remembrance, his departing and his staying, be in You and for You!

82

فَإذا صَافَّ عَدُوَّكَ وَعَدُوَّهُ فَقَلِّلْهُمْ فِي عَيْنِهِ

83.When he stands in ranks before Your enemy and his enemy, make them few in his eye,

83

وَصَغِّرْ شَأنَهُمْ فِي قَلْبِهِ

84.diminish their importance in his heart,

84

وَأَدِلْ لَهُ مِنْهُـمْ وَلاَ تُدِلْهُمْ مِنْهُ

85.give him a turn to prevail over them, not them a turn to prevail over him!

85

فَإنْ خَتَمْتَ لَهُ بِالسَّعَادَةِ وَقَضَيْتَ لَهُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ

86.But if You sealest him with felicity and decreest for him martyrdom,

86

فَبَعْدَ أَنْ يَجْتَاحَ عَدُوَّكَ بِالْقَتْلِ

87.then let it be after he has exterminated Your enemies by slaying,

87

وَبَعْدَ أنْ يَجْهَدَ بِهِمُ الأسْرُ

88.captivity has afflicted them,

88

وَبَعْدَ أن تَأمَنَ أطرَافُ المُسْلِمِينَ

89.the borders of the Muslims are secure,

89

وَبَعْدَ أَنْ يُوَلِّيَ عَدُوُّكَ مُدْبِرِينَ.

90.and Your enemy has turned his back in flight!

90

أللَّهُمَّ وَأَيُّمَا مُسْلِم

91.O God, and if a Muslim should

91

خَلَفَ غَازِياً أَوْ مُرَابِطاً فِي دَارِهِ

92.take the place of a warrior or a soldier in his home,

92

أَوْ تَعَهَّدَ خَالِفِيْهِ فِيْ غَيْبَتِهِ،

93.attend to those left behind in his absence,

93

أَوْ أَعَانَهُ بِطَائِفَة مِنْ مَالِهِ،

94.help him with a portion of his property,

94

أَوْ أَمَدَّهُ بِعِتَاد، أَوْ شَحَذَهُ عَلَى جِهَاد،

95.assist him with equipment, hone him for the struggle,

95

أَوْ أَتْبَعَهُ فِي وَجْهِهِ دَعْوَةً،

96.send along with him a supplication for his purpose,

96

أَوْ رَعَى لَهُ مِنْ وَرَآئِهِ حُرْمَةً.

97.or guard his honour in his absence,

97

فَأْجِرْ لَهُ مِثْلَ أَجْرِهِ

98.reward him with the like of his reward

98

وَزْناً بِوَزْن وَمِثْلاً بِمِثْل وَعَوِّضْهُ مِنْ فِعْلِهِ

99.measure for measure, like for like, and recompense him for his act

99

عِوَضاً حَاضِراً يَتَعَجَّلُ بِهِ نَفْعَ مَا قَدَّمَ،

100.with an immediate compensation through which he will hasten to the profit of what he has sent forth

100

وَسُرُورَ مَا أَتَى به، إلَى أَنْ يَنْتَهِيَ بِهِ الْوَقْتُ

101.and the joy of what he has given, till the present moment takes him

101

إلَى مَاأَجْرَيْتَ لَـهُ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ،

102.to the bounty You hast granted to him

102

وَأَعْدَدْتَ لَهُ مِنْ كَرَامَتِكَ.

103.and the generosity You hast prepared for him!

103

أللَّهُمَّ وَأَيُّمَا مُسْلِم أَهَمَّهُ أَمْرُ الإِسْلاَمِ

104.O God, and if the affair of Islam should worry a Muslim

104

وَأَحْزَنَهُ تَحَزُّبُ أَهْلِ ألشِّرْكِ عَلَيْهِمْ

105.and the alliance of the idolaters' against Islam should grieve him,

105

فَنَوَى غَزْواً أَوْ هَمَّ بِجهَـاد

106.so that he has the intention to go to war and is about to enter the struggle,

106

فَقَعَدَ بِـهِ ضَعْفٌ أَوْ أَبطَأَتْ بِهِ فَاقَةٌ،

107.but frailty keeps him seated, neediness keeps him waiting,

107

أَوْ أَخَّرَهُ عَنْهُ حَادِثٌ،

108.a mishap delays him,

108

أَوْ عَرَضَ لَهُ دُونَ إرَادَتِهِ مَانِعٌ،

109.or an obstruction prevents him from his wish,

109

فَاكْتُبِ اسْمَـهُ فِي الْعَابِدِينَ

110.write his name among the worshipers,

110

وَأوْجبْ لَهُ ثَوَابَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ

111.make incumbent for him the reward of the strugglers,

111

وَاجْعَلْهُ فِي نِظَامِ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ .

112.and place him among the ranks of the martyrs and the righteous!

112

أللَّهُمَّ صَـلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ

113.O God, bless Muhammad, Your slave and Your messenger,

113

وَآلِ مُحَمَّد صَلاَةً عَالِيَةً عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ

114.and the Household of Muhammad, with a blessing high above all other blessings,

114

مُشْرِفَةً فَوْقَ التَّحِيَّاتِ،

115.towering beyond all other salutations,

115

صَلاَةً لاَ يَنْتَهِي أَمَدُهَا

116.a blessing whose end is never reached

116

وَلا يَنْقَطِعُ عَدَدُهَا

117.and whose number is never cut off,

117

كَأَتَمِّ مَـا مَضَى مِنْ صَلَوَاتِكَ

118.like the most perfect of Your blessings that has passed

118

عَلَى أَحَد مِنْ أَوْلِيـائِكَ،

119.to any one of Your friends!

119

إنَّـكَ الْمَنَّانُ الْحَمِيدُ

120.You art All-kind, Praiseworthy,

120

الْمُبْدِئُ الْمُعِيدُ

121.the Originator who takes back again,

121

الفَعَّالُ لِمَا تُرِيْدُ.

122.Accomplisher of what You desirest.
