Ziyarat of Imam Hussain before Imam Ali

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna rasuli allahi

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ أَمِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

alssalamu `alayka yabna amiri almu'minina

Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ ٱلصِّديقَةِ ٱلطَّاهِرَةِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna alssiddiqati alttahirati

Peace be upon you, O son of the veracious and pure

سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

sayyidati nisa'i al`alamina

doyenne of all women of the world.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya mawlaya ya aba `abdillahi

Peace be upon you, O my master, Abu-`Abdullah.

وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَركَاتُهُ

wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu

So be upon you Allah’s mercy and blessings.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ ٱلصَّلاَةَ

ashhadu annaka qad aqamta alssalata

I bear witness that you offered the prayers,

وَآتَيْتَ ٱلزَّكَاةَ

wa atayta alzzakata

gave alms (zakat),

وَأَمَرْتَ بِٱلْمَعْروُفِ

wa amarta bilma`rufi

you enjoined the right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنْكَرِ

wa nahayta `an almunkari

forbade the wrong,

وَتَلَوْتَ ٱلْكِتَابَ حَقَّ تِلاَوَتِهِ

wa talawta alkitaba haqqa tilawatihi

recited the Book as it ought to be read,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي ٱللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ

wa jahadta fi allahi haqqa jihadihi

strove for the sake of Allah as it ought to be striven,

وَصَبَرْتَ عَلَىٰ ٱلأَذَىٰ فِي جَنْبِهِ

wa sabarta `ala aladha fi janbihi

and stood harm for His sake,

مُحْتَسِباً حَتَّىٰ أَتَاكَ ٱلْيَقينُ

muhtasiban hatta ataka alyaqinu

seeking His reward, until death came upon you.

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ ٱلَّذينَ خَالَفُوكَ وَحَارَبُوكَ

wa ashhadu anna alladhina khalafuka wa harabuka

And I witness that those who dissented with you, those who fought against you,

وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذينَ خَذَلُوكَ وَٱلَّذينَ قَتَلُوكَ

wa anna alladhina khadhaluka walladhina qataluka

those who disappointed you, and those who slew you—

مَلْعُونُونَ عَلَىٰ لِسَانِ ٱلنَّبِيِّ ٱلأُمِّيِّ

mal`ununa `ala lisani alnnabiyyi al-ummiyyi

all those are accused in the words of the Ummi (i.e. inhabitant of Umm al-Qura, Makkah) Prophet.

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ

wa qad khaba man iftara

And the forger must suffer frustration!

لَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ لَكُمْ

la`ana allahu alzzalimina lakum

May Allah curse those who prosecuted you

مِنَ ٱلأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلآخِرِينَ

min al-awwalina wal-akhirina

from the past and the coming generations

وَضَاعَفَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلأَلِيمَ

wa da`afa `alayhim al`adhaba al-alima

and may He double for them the painful chastisement.

أَتَيْتُكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

ataytuka ya mawlaya yabna rasuli allahi

O my master and son of Allah’s Messenger,

زَائِراً عَارِفاً بِحَقِّكَ

za'iran `arifan bihaqqika

I have come visiting you and recognizing your status,

مُوَالِياً لأَوْلِيَائِكَ

muwaliyan li-awliya'ika

showing loyalty to your adherents,

مُعَادِياً لأَعْدَائِكَ

mu`adiyan li-a`da'ika

incurring the hostility of your enemies,

مُسْتَبْصِراً بِٱلْهُدَىٰ ٱلَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ

mustabsiran bilhuda alladhi anta `alayhi

acknowledging the true guidance that you follow,

عَارِفاً بِضَلاَلَةِ مَنْ خَالَفَكَ

`arifan bidalalati man khalafaka

and understanding the deviation (from the right path) of any one who disagrees with you.

فَٱشْفَعْ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ

fashfa` li `inda rabbika

So, (please) intercede for me with your Lord.

اللّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَرى مَكانِي وَتَسْمَعُ كَلامِي وَلا يَخْفى عَلَيْكَ شَيٌْ مِنْ أَمْرِي وَكَيْفَ يَخْفى عَلَيْكَ ما أَنْتَ مَكَوِّنُهُ وَبارِئُهُ ، وَقَدْ جِئْتُكَ مُسْتَشْفِعاً بِنَبِيِّكَ نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ وَمُتَوَسِّلاً بِوَصِيِّ رَسُولِكَ ، فَأَسْأَلُكَ بِهِما ثَباتَ القَدَمِ وَالهُدى وَالمَغْفِرَةَ فِي الدُّنْيا وَالآخِرةِ

O Allah, You see my place and You hear my words, and nothing of my affair is hidden from You. How could anything be hidden from You when You are its Originator and Creator? I have come to You seeking the intercession of Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, and beseeching through the successor of Your Messenger. I ask You by both of them for steadfastness of foot, and guidance, and forgiveness in this world and the Hereafter.
