Twenty-eighth: Ibn Mahbub is reported to have said: Imam al-Sadiq (`a) taught a man this supplicatory prayer to say it in his supplications
O Allah, I beseech You for Your mercy
- 2
that cannot be obtained from You except through Your pleasure,
- 3
for departure from all acts of disobedience to You,
- 4
for entering into all that which achieves Your pleasure,
- 5
for redemption from all troubles,
- 6
and for a way out from every grave matter
- 7
that I have committed deliberately,
- 8
I have committed wrongly,
- 9
or I have committed owing to an evil inspiration of Satan.
- 10
I beseech You for fear (of You) by which You stop me at the limits of Your pleasure
- 11
and by which You strew about all lusts that come to my mind because of my whims
- 12
or because of the slips of my personal view that violates the bounds of what You have deemed lawful.
- 13
I beseech You, O Allah, to lead me to take in the best of what You know,
- 14
to shun the evil of all what You know,
- 15
and to avoid committing a wrongdoing from whence I know
- 16
and from whence I do not know.
- 17
I beseech You for expansion in my sustenance,
- 18
abstinence with the minimum necessary sustenance,
- 19
finding a way out from all seditious matters with clear demonstration,
- 20
hitting the mark in all arguments,
- 21
telling the truth under all circumstances,
- 22
treating all people fairly whether for my good or the otherwise,
- 23
acting humbly in giving people fairness against myself
- 24
in all situations of dissatisfaction or satisfaction,
- 25
eschewing any amount of transgression, be it grave or insignificance
- 26
and be it in words or in deeds,
- 27
winning Your blessings perfectly in all things,
- 28
and showing You gratitude for all such blessings so that You will be pleased with me and even beyond Your pleasure.
- 29
I also beseech You to lead me to the best of all matters that have more than one option,
- 30
in the easiest way of all matters, but not in a difficult manner.
- 31
O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!
- 32
(Please) open before me the door to attain the mattes
- 33
that achieve my wellbeing and my relief,
- 34
open before me the door to all such matters,
- 35
and make easy for me to find a way out against the opposite.
- 36
As for any one of Your creatures whom You have given power over me,
- 37
(please) take away from me his hearing, sight,
- 38
tongue (i.e. word), and hand (i.e. deed),
- 39
and take him away from his right side, his left side,
- 40
his back, and his front,
- 41
and stop him lest he may pass evil on me.
- 42
Strong is he who is in Your vicinity,
- 43
glorious is Your praise,
- 44
and there is no god but You.
- 45
You are my Lord and I am Your servant.
- 46
You are my hope in all hard times,
- 47
in You alone I put my trust in all ordeals,
- 48
and You alone are my reliance and support in every matter that afflicts me.
- 49
Too many are the agonies, which the heart is too weak to undergo,
- 50
which all stratagems fail to manage,
- 51
at which the enemy gloat,
- 52
and in which I lose any way out,
- 53
but when I referred them to You and complained about them to You,
- 54
abandoning all others than You,
- 55
You have relieved and saved me from them.
- 56
So, You are the patron of all graces,
- 57
the One Who stands for all requests,
- 58
and the utmost of all desires.
- 59
So, very much praise be to You
- 60
and abundant gratitude be to You.
