Munajat of Imam Ali

َللّـهُمَّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ الأَمَانَ يَوْمَ لا يَنْفَعُ مالٌ وَلابَنُونَ إِلاّ مَنْ أَتَىٰ اللهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَليمٍ،

allaahumma innee as-alukal amaana yawma laa yanfa-u’ maalun wa laa banoonun illaa man atallaaha biqalbin saleem

O Allah, I ask You for protection on the day when property will not avail, nor sons except he who comes with a heart free (from evil) (26: 88)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ يَعَضُّ الظّالِمُ عَلىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يا لَيْتِني اتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ الرَّسُولِ سَبيلاً

wa as-alukal amaana yawma ya-a’z”z”uz’ z’aalimu a’laa yadayhi ya qoolu yaa laytanittakhad’tu ma-a’rrasooli sabeelaa

And I ask You for protection on the day when the unjust one will bite his hands saying: O would that I had taken a way with the messenger (25; 27)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ يُعْرَفُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسيمـاهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِالنَّواصي وَالأَقْدامِ

wa as-alukal amaana yawma yu’-raful mujrimoona biseemaahum fayoo-khad’u bin nawaas’ee wal aqdaam

And I ask You for protection on the day when the guilty shall be recognised by their marks so they shall be seized by the forelocks and the feet (55; 41)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ لا يَجْزي والِدٌ عَنْ وَلَدِهِ وَلا مَوْلُودٌ هُوَ جازٍ عَنْ والِدِهِ شَيْئاً إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللهِ حَقٌّ

wa as-alukal amaana yawma laa yajzee waalidun a’n wlaadihee wa laa mawloodun huwa jaazin a’n inna wa’-dallaahi h’aqq

And I ask You for protection on the day when a father shall not give any satisfaction for his son nor shall the child give any satisfaction for his father, Surely the promise of Allah is true (31; 33)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ لا يَنْفَعُ الظّالِمينَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَهُمُ اللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوءُ الدّارِ

wa as-alukal amaana yawma laa yanfa-u’z z’aalimeena ma’-d’iratuhum wa lahumul la’-natu wa lahum soo-ud daar

And I ask You for protection on the day when the unjust shall not benefit from their excuse and for them is curse and for them is the evil abode (40; 52)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ لا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِنَفْسٍ شَيْئاً وَالأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ للهِ

wa as-alukal amaana yawma laa yamliku nafsun linafsin shay-an wal amru yawma-id’in lillaah

And I ask You for protection on the day when no soul shall control anything for (another) soul and the command on that day shall be entirely Allah's (82; 19)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخيهِ وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبيهِ وَصاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنيهِ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنيهِ

wa as-alukal amaana yawma yafirrul mar-u min akheehi wa ummihee wa abeehee wa s’aah’ibatihee wa baneehee likulli amree-in minhum yawma-id’in shaanun yughneehi

And I ask You for protection on the day when a man shall flee from his brother, and his mother, his father, his spouse, and his children, each one of them on that day will have a concern which will occupy him (80;34)

وَأَسْاَلُكَ الأَمانَ يَوْمَ يَوَدُّ المُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدي مِنْ عَذابِ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِبَنيهِ وَصاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخيهِ وَفَصيلَتِهِ الَّتي تُؤْويهِ وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ جَميعاً ثُمَّ يُنْجيهِ

wa as-alukal a-maana yawma ya-waddul mujrimu law yaftadee min a’d’aabi yawma-id’im bibaneehee wa s’aahibatihee wa akheehee wa fas’eelatil latee tooweehi wa man fil arz”l jamee-a’n thumma yunajjeehi

And I ask You for protection on the day when the guilty will wish to redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, and the near of kin who gave him shelter and all those that are in the earth (wising) that this might deliver him ...

كَلّا إِنَّها لَظىٰ نَزّاعَةً لِلشَّوىٰ

kallaa innahaa laz’aa nazzaa-a’tal lish-shawaa

... by no means! Surely it is a flaming fire, dragging by the head (70; 11; 16)

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْمَوْلىٰ وَأَنَا الْعَبْدُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْعَبْدَ إِلّا الْمَوْلىٰ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal mawlaa wa anal a’bdu wa hal yarh’amul a’bda illal mawlaa

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Master and I am the Slave, and who else can be merciful to the slave except the Master?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْمالِكُ وَأَنَا الْمَمْلُوكُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَمْلُوكَ إِلّا الْمالِكُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal maaliku wa anal mamlooku wa hal yarh’amul mamlooka illal maalik

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Owner and I am the one owned by You, and who else can be merciful to the owned except the owner?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْعَزيزُ وَأَنَا الذَّليلُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الذَّليلَ إِلّا الْعَزيزُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antla a’zeezu wa anad’ d’aleelu wa hal yarh’amud’ d’aleela illal a’zeez

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Mighty and I am the low, and who else can be merciful to the low except the Mighty?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْخالِقُ وَأَنَا الْمَخْلُوقُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ المَخْلُوقَ إِلّا الْخالِقُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal khaaliqu wa anal makhlooqu wa anal makhlooqu wa hal yarh’amul makhlooqa illal khaaliq

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Creator and I am the creature, and who else can be merciful to the creature except the Creator?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْعَظيمُ وَأَنَا الْحَقيرُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْحَقيرَ إِلّا الْعَظيمُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaay antal a’zeemu wa anal h’aqeeru wa hal yarh’amul h’aqeera illal a’zeem

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Glorious and I am the miserable, and who else can be merciful to the miserable except the Glorious?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْقَوِيُّ وَأَنَا الضَّعيفُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الضَّعيفَ إِلّا الْقَوِيُّ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaay antal qawiyyu wa anal za’eefu wa hal yarh’amul za’eefa illal qawiy

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Powerful and I am the weak, and who else can be merciful to the weak except the Powerful?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَأَنَا الْفَقيرُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفَقيرَ إِلّا الْغَنِيُّ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal ghaniyyu wa anal faqeeru wa hal yarh’amul faqeera illal ghaniyy

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Wealthy and I am the Poor, and who else can be merciful to the poor except the Wealthy?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْمُعْطي وَأَنَا السّائِلُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ السّائِلَ إِلّا الْمُعْطي

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal mu’-t’ee wa anas saa-ilu wa hal yarh’amus saaila illal mu’-t’ee

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Bestower and I am the beggar, and who else can be merciful to the beggar except the Bestower?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْحَيُّ وَأَنَا الْمَيِّتُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَيِّتَ إِلّا الْحَيُّ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal h’ayyu wa anal mayyitu wa hal yarh’amul mayyita illal h’ayy

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Living and I am the dead, and who else can be merciful to the dead except the Living?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْباقي وَأَنَا الْفاني وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفانيَ إِلّا الْباقي

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal baaqee wa anal faanee wa hal yarh’amul faanee illal baaqee

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Eternal and I am the transient, and who else can be merciful to the transient except the Eternal?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الدّائِمُ وَأَنَا الزّائِلُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الزّائِلَ إِلّا الدّائِمُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal daa-imu wa anaz zaa-ilu wa hal yarh’amuz zaaila illad daa-im

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Permanent and I am the short-lived, and who else can be merciful to the short-lived except the Permanent?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الرّازِقُ وَأَنَا الْمَرْزُوقُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْزُوقَ إِلّا الرّازِقُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antar raaziqu wa anal marzooqu wa anal marzooqu wa hal yarh’amul marzooqa illar raaziq

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Provider and I am the blessed, and who else can be merciful to the blessed except the Provider?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْجَوادُ وَأَنَا الْبَخيلُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْبَخيلَ إِلّا الْجَوادُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal ja waadu wa anal bakheelu bakheela illal jawaad

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Generous and I am the miser, and who else can be merciful to the miser except the Generous?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْمُعافي وَأَنَا الْمُبْتَلىٰ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُبْتَلىٰ إِلّا الْمُعافي

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal mua’afee wa anal mubtalaa wa hal yarh’amul mubtalaa illal mu-a’afee

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Healer and I am the afflicted, and who else can be merciful to the afflicted except the Healer?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْكَبيرُ وَأَنَا الصَّغيرُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الصَّغيرَ إِلّا الْكَبيرُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal kabeeru wa anas’ s’agheeru wa hal yarh’amus’ s’agheera illal kabeer

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Great and I am the insignificant, and who else can be merciful to the insignificant except the Great?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْهادي وَأَنَا الضّالُّ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الضّالَّ إِلّا الْهادي

mawlayaa yaa mawlaaya antal hadee wa anaz” z”allu wa hal yarh’amuz” z”aalla illal haadee

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Leading and I am the straying, and who else can be merciful to the straying except the Leading?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الرَّحْمنُ وَأَنَا الْمَرْحُومُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْحُومَ إِلّا الرَّحْمنُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antar rah’maanu wa anal marh’oomu wa hal yarh’amul marh’ooma illar rah’maan

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Merciful and I am the one shown mercy, and who else can be merciful to the one shown mercy except the Merciful?

مَوْلايَ يامَوْلايَ أَنْتَ السُّلْطانُ وَأَنَا الْمُمْتَحَنُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُمْتَحَنَ إِلّا السُّلْطانُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antas sult’aanu wa anal mumtah’anu wa hal yarh’amul mumtah’ana illas sult’aan

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Authority and I am the tried, and who else can be merciful to the tried except the Authority?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الدَّليلُ وَأَنَا الْمُتَحَيِّرُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُتَحَيِّرَ إِلّا الدَّليلُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antad daleelu wa anal mutah’ayyiru wa hal mutah’ayyira ilad daleel

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Guide and I am the confused, and who else can be merciful to the confused except the Guide?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ وَأَنَا الْمُذْنِبُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُذْنِبَ إِلّا الْغَفُورُ

mawlaaya antal ghafooru wa anal mud’nibu wa hal yrh’amul mud’nibu illal ghafoor

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Forgiver and I am the sinner, and who else can be merciful to the sinner except the Forgiver?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْغالِبُ وَأَنَا الْمَغْلُوبُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَغْلُوبَ إِلّا الْغالِبُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal ghaalibu wa anal maghloobu wa hal yarh’amul maghlooba illal ghaalib

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Victor and I am the defeated, and who else can be merciful to the defeated except the Victor?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الرَّبُّ وَأَنَا الْمَرْبُوبُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْبُوبَ إِلّا الرَّبُّ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antar rabbu wa anal marboobu wa hal yarh’amul marbooba illar rabb

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the Nourisher and I am the nourished, and who else can be merciful to the nourished except the Nourisher?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ أَنْتَ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ وَأَنَا الْخاشِعُ وَهَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْخاشِعَ إِلّا الْمُتَكَبِّرُ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya antal mutakabbiru wa anal khaashi-u’ wa hal yarh’amul kaashi-a’ illal mutakabbir

My Lord, O my Lord, You are the High-handed and I am the humble, and who else can be merciful to humble the except the High-handed?

مَوْلايَ يا مَوْلايَ اِرْحَمْني بِرَحْمَتِكَ

mawlaaya yaa mawlaaya arh’amnee birah’matika

My Lord, O my Lord, have mercy on me by Your mercy,

وَارْضَ عَنّي بِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ

warz”a a’nnee bijoodika wa karamika wa faz”lika

and be pleased with me by Your Generosity and Your Magnanimity and Your Grace,

يا ذَا الْجُودِ وَالاِحْسانِ وَالطَّوْلِ وَالِإمْتِنانِ

yaa d’al joodi wal ih’saani wat’t’ooli wal imtinaani

O the Generous, and Beneficent, O the Almighty and the Benefactor,

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يا اَرْحَمَ الرّاحِمينَ

birah’matika yaa arh’amar raaha’imeen

By your Mercy, O the most Merciful of the Merciful.

مناجأة أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب"ع المناجاة المنظومة

The Whispered Prayer of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon him -- The Versified Whispered Prayer

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bismi allahi alrrahmani alrrahimi

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent the All-merciful.

لَكَ ٱلْحَمْد ُيَا ذَاَ ٱلْجُودِ وَٱلْمَجْدِ وَٱلْعُلَىٰ

laka alhamdu ya dhaljudi walmajdi wal`ula

To You be all praise; O Lord of magnanimity, glory, and elevation!

تَبَارَكْتَ تُعْطِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَتَمْنَعُ

tabarakta tu`ti man tasha'u wa tamna`u

Blessed be You; You favor or ban whomever You wish.

إِلٰهِي وَخَلاَّقِي وَحِرْزِي وَمَوْئِلِي

ilahi wa khallaqi wa hirzi wa maw'ili

O my God, my Creator, my Shelter, and my Refuge!

إِلَيْكَ لَدَىٰ ٱلإِعْسَارِ وَٱلْيُسْرِ افْزَعُ

ilayka lada al-i`sari walyusri afza`u

To You do I resort in hardships and in joys.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ جَلَّتْ وَجَمَّتْ خَطِيئَتِي

ilahi la'in jallat wa jammat khati'ati

O my God, even if my sin is too grave and too big,

فَعَفْوُكَ عَنْ ذَنْبِي اجَلُّ وَاوْسَعُ

fa`afwuka `an dhanbi ajallu wa awsa`u

Your pardoning my sin is still greater and vaster.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ اعْطَيْتُ نَفْسِيَ سُؤْلَهَا

ilahi la'in a`taytu nafsiya su'laha

O my God, because I have allowed my soul to do whatever it liked,

فَهَا انَا فِي رَوْضِ ٱلنَّدَامَةِ ارْتَعُ

faha ana fi rawdi alnnadamati arta`u

here I am now turning over and over on the land of remorse.

إِلٰهِي تَرَىٰ حَالِي وَفَقْرِي وَفَاقَتِي

ilahi tara hali wa faqri wa faqati

O my God, You can see my manner, my neediness, and my poverty,

وَانْتَ مُنَاجَاتِي ٱلْخَفِيَّةَ تَسْمَعُ

wa anta munajati alkhafiyyata tasma`u

so can You hear my inaudible prayers to You.

إِلٰهِي فَلاَ تَقْطَعْ رَجَائِي وَلاَ تُزِغْ

ilahi fala taqta` raja'i wa la tuzigh

O my God, then (please) do not disappoint me and do not cause

فُؤَُادِي فَلِي فِي سَيْبِ جُودِكَ مَطْمَعُ

fu'adi fali fi saybi judika matma`u

my heart to turn away, for I long for Your vast magnanimity.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ خَيَّبْتَنِي اوْ طَرَدْتَنِي

ilahi la'in khayyabtani aw taradtani

O my God, if You disappoint me or throw me out,

فَمَنْ ذَاَ ٱلَّذِي ارْجُو وَمَنْ ذَا اشَفِّعُ

faman dhalladhi arju wa man dha ushaffi`u

then for whom will I hope and whose intercession will I seek before You?

إِلٰهِي اجِرْنِي مِنْ عَذَابِكَ إِنَّنِي

ilahi ajirni min `adhabika innani

O my God, please redeem me from Your torture,

اسِيرٌ ذَلِيلٌ خَائِفٌ لَكَ اخْضَعُ

asirun dhalilun kha'ifun laka akhda`u

for I am imprisoned, humble, and to You do I submit.

إِلٰهِي فَآنِسْنِي بِتَلْقِينِ حُجَّتِي

ilahi fa-anisni bitalqini hujjati

O my God, delight me by helping me submit my argument,

إِذَا كَانَ لِي فِي ٱلْقَبْر ِمَثْوَىً وَمَضْجَعُ

idha kana li fi alqabri mathwan wa madja`u

when I shall be lodged in my grave.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ عَذَّبْتَنِي الْفَ حجَّةٍ

ilahi la'in `adhdhabtani alfa hujjatin

O my God, if You chastise me for one thousand years,

فَحَبْلُ رَجَائِي مِنْكَ لاَ يَتَقَطَّعُ

fahablu raja'i minka la yataqatta`u

the rope of my hope for You shall nonetheless be cut off.

إِلٰهِي اذِقْنِي طَعْمَ عَفْوِكَ يَوْمَ لاَ

ilahi adhiqni ta`ma `afwika yawma la

O my God, please make me taste the flavor of Your pardon on that Day

بَنُونَ وَلاَ مَالٌ هُنَالِكَ يَنْفَعُ

banuna wa la malun hunalika yanfa`u

when neither one’s sons nor property shall promote.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ لَمْ تَرْعَنِي كُنْتُ ضَائِعاً

ilahi la'in lam tar`ani kuntu da'i`an

O my God, if You do not guard me, I shall certainly be lost,

وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَرْعَانِي فَلَسْتُ اضَيَّعُ

wa in kunta tar`ani falastu udayya`u

but if You guard me, I shall never be lost.

إِلٰهِي إِذَا لَمْ تَعْفُ عَنْ غَيْرِ مُحْسِنٍ

ilahi idha lam ta`fu `an ghayri muhsinin

O my God, if You forgive none but the doer of good deeds,

فَمَنْ لِمُسِي ءٍ بِٱلْهَوَىٰ يَتَمَتَّعُ

faman limusi'in bilhawa yatamatta`u

then who shall care for the wrongdoers who plunge in their fancies?

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ فَرَّطْتُ فِي طَلَبِ ٱلتُّقَىٰ

ilahi la'in farrattu fi talabi alttuqa

O my God, if I have been negligent in the seeking of piety,

فَهَا انَا إِثْرَ ٱلْعَفْوِ اقْفُو وَاتْبَعُ

faha ana ithra al`afwi aqfu wa atba`u

here I am now tracking the traces of Your pardon.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ اخْطَاتُ جَهْلاً فَطَالَمَا

ilahi la'in akhta'tu jahlan fatalama

O my God, if I have been wrong out of ignorance,

رَجَوْتُكَ حَتَّىٰ قِيلَ مَا هُوَ يَجْزَعُ

rajawtuka hatta qila ma huwa yajza`u

I have begged You so much that it was said that I would never feel tired.

إِلٰهِي ذُنُوبِي بَذَّتِ ٱلطَّوْدَ وَٱعْتَلَتْ

ilahi dhunubi badhdhati alttawda wa`talat

O my God, although my sins have been higher than mountains,

وَصَفْحُكَ عَنْ ذَنْبِي اجَلُّ وَارْفَعُ

wa safhuka `an dhanbi ajallu wa arfa`u

Your pardon is still higher and more elevated.

إِلٰهِي يُنَجِّي ذِكْرُ طَوْلِكَ لَوْعَتِي

ilahi yunajji dhikru tawlika law`ati

O my God, as I remember Your power, my agonies are abated,

وَذِكْرُ ٱلْخَطَايَا ٱلْعَيْنَ مِنِّي يُدَمِّعُ

wa dhikru alkhataya al`ayna minni yudammi`u

and as I remember my sins, my eyes shed tears.

إِلٰهِي اقِلْنِي عَثْرَتِي وَٱمْحُ حَوْبَتِي

ilahi aqilni `athrati wamhu hawbati

O my God, please overlook my slips and erase my wrongdoing,

فَإِنِّي مُقِرٌّ خَائِفٌ مُتَضَرِّعُ

fa'inni muqirrun kha'ifun mutadarri`u

for I confess of them fearfully and hopefully.

إِلٰهِي انِلْنِي مِنْكَ رَوْحاً وَرَاحَةً

ilahi anilni minka rawhan wa rahatan

O my God, grant me rest and relax from You,

فَلَسْتُ سِوَىٰ ابْوَابِ فَضْلِكَ اقْرَعُ

falastu siwa abwabi fadlika aqra`u

for I knock no door save the doors of Your favor.

إِلٰهِي لَئِنْ اقْصَيْتَنِي اوْ اهَنْتَنِي

ilahi la'in aqsaytani aw ahantani

O my God, if You expel me or insult me,

فَمَا حِيلَتِي يَا رَبِّ امْ كَيْفَ اصْنَعُ

fama hilati ya rabbu am kayfa asna`u

which method shall I then take and what shall I do?

إِلٰهِي حَلِيفُ ٱلْحُبِّ فِي ٱللَّيْلِ سَاهِرٌ

ilahi halifu alhubbi fi allayli sahirun

O my God, the true lover (of You) is staying up at night,

يُنَاجِي وَيَدْعُو وَٱلْمُغَفَّلُ يَهْجَعُ

yunaji wa yad`u walmughaffalu yahja`u

calling at You and praying to You, while the unmindful is asleep!

إِلٰهِي وَهٰذَا ٱلْخَلْقُ مَا بَيْنَ نَائِمٍ

ilahi wa hadha alkhalqu ma bayna na'imin

O my God, these beings are either sleeping

وَمُنْتَبِهٍ فِي لَيْلِهِ يَتَضَرَّعُ

wa muntabihin fi laylihi yatadarra`u

or vigilant at night, beseeching You.

وَكُلُّهُمُ يَرْجُو نَوَالَكَ رَاجِياً

wa kulluhumu yarju nawalaka rajiyan

Yet, all are hoping for Your rewards, wishing

لِرَحْمَتِكَ ٱلْعُظْمَىٰ وَفِي ٱلْخُلْدِ يَطْمَعُ

lirahmatika al`uzma wa fi alkhuldi yatma`u

for Your Grandest Mercy, and desiring for Eternity.

إِلٰهِي يُمَنِّينِي رَجَائِي سَلامَةً

ilahi yumannini raja'i salamatan

O my God, my hope for You makes me feel safe,

وَقُبْحُ خَطِيئَاتِي عَلَيَّ يُشَنِّعُ

wa qubhu khatu'ati `alayya yushanni`u

but the vice of my wrongdoings is reproaching me.

إِلٰهِي فَإِنْ تَعْفُو فَعَفْوُكَ مُنْقِذِي

ilahi fa'in ta`fu fa`afwuka munqidhi

O my God, if you pardon me, then You shall have saved me;

وَإِلاَّ فَبِٱلذَّنْبِ ٱلْمُدَمِّرِ اصْرَعُ

wa illa fabildhdhanbi almudammiri usra`u

otherwise, I will be the prey of my offensive sins.

إِلٰهِي بِحَقِّ ٱلْهَاشِمِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ

ilahi bihaqqi alhashimiyyi muhammadin

O my God, (I beseech You) in the name of Muhammad, the Hashemite

وَحُرْمَةِ اطْهَارٍ هُمُ لَكَ خُضَّعُ

wa hurmati atharin humu laka khudda`u

and in the name of the sanctity of those Pure Ones who always submit to You.

إِلٰهِي بِحَقِّ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ وَٱبْنِ عَمِّهِ

ilahi bihaqqi almustafa wabni `ammihi

O my God, (I beseech You) in the name of the Chosen Prophet, his cousin,

وَحُرْمَةِ ابْرَارٍ هُمُ لَكَ خُشَّعُ

wa hurmati abrarin humu laka khushsha`u

and the sanctity of the Pious Ones who are fearful of You.

إِلٰهِي فَانْشِرْنِي عَلَىٰ دِينِ احْمَدٍ

ilahi fa-anshirni `ala dini ahmadin

O my God, guide me to keep following the religion of Ahmad

مُنِيباً تَقِيّاً قَانِتاً لَكَ اخْضَعُ

muniban taqiyyan qanitan laka akhda`u

with full submission, piety, obedience, and surrender to You.

وَلاَ تَحْرِمَنِّي يَا إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي

wa la tahrimanni ya ilahi wa sayyidi

Please, deprive me not, O my God and Master,

شَفَاعَتَهُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ فَذَاكَ ٱلْمُشَفَّعُ

shafa`atahu alkubra fadhaka almushaffa`u

of his (i.e. Muhammad) great intercession, for he is the true interceder.

وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا دَعَاكَ مُوَحِّدٌ

wa salli `alayhim ma da`aka muwahhidun

Please, send blessings to them as long as one believing in Your Oneness prays to You

وَنَاجَاكَ اخْيَارٌ بِبَابِكَ رُكَّعُ

wa najaka akhyarun bibabika rukka`u

and as long as pious people, kneeling down at Your door, implore You.

إِلٰهِي كَفَىٰ بِيَ عِزّاً انْ اكُونَ لَكَ عَبْداً

ilahi kafa biya `izzan an akuna laka `abdan

O my God, to be a servant of You is the ultimate of my honor

وَكَفَىٰ بِيَ فَخْراً انْ تَكُونَ لِيَ رَبّاً

wa kafa biya fakhran an takuna li rabban

and Your being my Lord is the ultimate of my pride.

انْتَ كَمَا احِبُّ فَٱجْعَلْنِي كَمَا تُحِبُّ

anta kama uhibbu faj`alni kama tuhibbu

As You are as exactly as I love, please make me as exactly as You love
