Dua Adeelah — TheShia

1

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

2

﴿شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ انَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

“Allah bears witness that there is no god but He,

3

وَٱلْمَلائِكَةُ وَاولُوٱ ٱلْعِلْمِ

and (so do) the angels and those possessed of knowledge,

4

قَائِماً بِالْقِسْطِ

maintaining His creation with justice;

5

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise.

6

إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلإِسْلاَمُ﴾

Surely, the (true) religion with Allah is Islam.”

7

وَانَا ٱلْعَبْدُ ٱلضَّعِيفُ ٱلْمُذْنِبُ

I am the slave—feeble, sinful,

8

ٱلْعَاصِي ٱلْمُحْتَاجُ ٱلْحَقِيرُ

disobedient, needy, and ignoble—

9

اشْهَدُ لِمُنْعِمِي وَخَاِلقِي

I testify to my Benefactor, Creator,

10

وَرَازِقِي وَمُكْرِمِي

Provider of me with my sustenance, and my Honorer,

11

كَمَا شَهِدَ لِذَاتِهِ

as same as He has testified to Himself

12

وَشَهِدَتْ لَهُ ٱلْمَلائِكَةُ

and the angels have testified to Him

13

وَاولُوٱ ٱلْعِلْمِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ

so have those possessed with knowledge amongst His servants

14

بِانَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

that there is no god save Him

15

ذُو ٱلنِّعَمِ وَٱلإِحْسَانِ

the Lord of bounties, favors,

16

وَٱلْكَرَمِ وَٱلاِمْتِنَانِ

generosity, and kindness.

17

قَادِرٌ ازَلِيٌّ

He is Omnipotent, Eternal,

18

عَالِمٌ ابَدِيٌّ

All-knowing, Everlasting,

19

حَيٌّ احَدِيٌّ

Ever-living, One and Only,

20

مَوْجُودٌ سَرْمَدِيٌّ

Self-existent, Endless,

21

سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ

All-hearing, All-Seeing,

22

مُرِيدٌ كَارِهٌ

Willing, Discriminating,

23

مُدْرِكٌ صَمَدِيٌّ

All-aware, and eternally Besought of all.

24

يَسْتَحِقُّ هٰذِهِ ٱلصِّفَاتُ

He is worthy of all these attributes,

25

وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ مَا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ فِي عِزِّ صِفَاتِهِ

and He, characterized by all these sublime attributes,

26

كَانَ قَوْيّاً قَبْلَ وُجُودِ ٱلْقُدْرَةِ وَٱلْقُوَّةِ

was All-powerful prior to the existence of might and power,

27

وَكَانَ عَلِيماً قَبْلَ إِيجَادِ ٱلْعِلْمِ وَٱلْعِلَّةِ

and All-knowing before the origination of knowledge and reason.

28

لَمْ يَزَلْ سُلْطَاناً إِذْ لاَ مَمْلَكَةَ وَلاَ مَالَ

He has been always Authority when there was neither sovereignty nor wealth.

29

وَلَمْ يَزَلْ سُبْحَاناً عَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلاحْوَاِل

He has been always Glorious under all circumstances.

30

وُجُودُهُ قَبْلَ ٱلْقَبْلِ فِي ازَلِ ٱلآزَاِل

His Being is before all precedence in the pre-eternity of sempiternity.

31

وَبَقَاؤُهُ بَعْدَ ٱلْبَعْدِ مِنْ غَيْرِ ٱنتِقَالٍ وَلاَ زَوَالٍ

His Remaining will be after all endings without any extinction or disappearance.

32

غَنِيٌّ فِي ٱلاوَّلِ وَٱلآخِرِ

He is self-Sufficient at the beginning and at the end

33

مُسْتَغْنٍ فِي ٱلْبَاطِنِ وَٱلظَّاهِرِ

and All-independent inwardly and outwardly.

34

لاَ جَوْرَ فِي قَضِيَّتِهِ

There is no injustice in His judgment,

35

وَلاَ مَيْلَ فِي مَشِيئَتِهِ

nor is there unfairness in His management,

36

وَلاَ ظُلْمَ فِي تَقْدِيرِهِ

nor is there unfairness in His administration,

37

وَلاَ مَهْرَبَ مِنْ حُكُومَتِهِ

nor is there any escape from His sovereignty,

38

وَلاَ مَلْجَا مِنْ سَطَوَاتِهِ

nor is there any shelter against His firm grip,

39

وَلاَ مَنجىٰ مِنْ نَقِمَاتِهِ

nor is there any salvation from His punishment.

40

سَبَقَتْ رَحْمَتُهُ غَضَبَهُ

His mercy overtakes His Wrath.

41

وَلاَ يَفُوتُهُ احَدٌ إِذَا طَلَبَهُ

None can escape Him when He summons.

42

ازَاحَ ٱلْعِلَلَ فِي ٱلتَّكْلِيفِ

He covers all logics for His obligatory decrees,

43

وَسَوَّىٰ ٱلتَّوْفِيقَ بَيْنَ ٱلضَّعِيفِ وَٱلشَّرِيفِ

treats absolutely equally the weak and the noble,

44

مَكَّنَ ادَاءَ ٱلْمَامُورِ

makes capable to carry out His commands,

45

وَسَهَّلَ سَبِيلَ ٱجْتِنَابِ ٱلْمَحْظُورِ

and makes easy to abstain from His prohibitions.

46

لَمْ يُكَلِّفِ ٱلطَّاعَةَ إِلاَّ دُونَ ٱلْوُسْعِ وَٱلطَّاقَةِ

He does not make obedience a burden but according to one's real capacity.

47

سُبْحَانَهُ مَا ابْيَنَ كَرَمَهُ

All glory be to Him! How manifest His generosity is!

48

وَاعْلَىٰ شَانَهُ

How sublime His standing is!

49

سُبْحَانَهُ مَا اجَلَّ نَيلَهُ

All glory be to Him! How magnificent to seek Him is!

50

وَاعْظَمَ إِحْسَانَهُ

How splendid His favors are!

51

بَعَثَ ٱلانْبِيَاءَ لِيُبَيِّنَ عَدْلَهُ

He has sent the Prophets in order to show His justice,

52

وَنَصَبَ ٱلاوْصِيَاءَ لِيُظْهِرَ طَوْلَهُ وَفَضْلَهُ

and appointed successors [for the Prophets] in order to make known His munificence and grace.

53

وَجَعَلَنَا مِنْ امَّةِ سَيِّدِ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ

He has made us of the community of the Chief of Prophets,

54

وَخَيْرِ ٱلاوْلِيَاءِ

the most favorable of His saints,

55

وَافْضَلِ ٱلاصْفِيَاءِ

the best of His elite ones,

56

وَاعْلىٰ ٱلازْكِيَاءِ

and the most sublime of the pure ones;

57

مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ

that is Muhammad, may Allah send blessings and benedictions upon him and his Household.

58

آمَنَّا بِهِ وَبِمَا دَعَانَا إِلَيْهِ

We thus believe in him, in all that to which he has called us,

59

وَبِٱلْقُرْآنِ ٱلَّذِي انْزَلَهُ عَلَيْهِ

in the Qur'an which He revealed to him,

60

وَبِوَصِيِّهِ ٱلَّذِي نَصَبَهُ يَوْمَ ٱلْغَدِيرِ

and in his Successor whom he appointed on the Ghadir Day

61

وَاشَارَ إِلَيْهِ بِقَوْلِهِ: "هٰذَا عَلِيٌّ"

and to whom he referred by saying, “This is `Ali.”

62

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلائِمَّةَ ٱلابْرَارَ

I also bear witness that the Imams—the pious

63

وَٱلْخُلَفَاءَ ٱلاخْيَارَ

and benign vicegerents [of Allah]

64

بَعْدَ ٱلرَّسُولِ ٱلْمُخْتَارِ

after the Chosen Prophet are:

65

عَلِيٌّ قَامِعُ ٱلْكُفَّارِ

`Ali, the subduer of the infidels.

66

وَمِنْ بَعْدِهِ سَيِّدُ اوْلاَدِهِ ٱلْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ

Following him is the chief of his sons, al-Hasan, the son of `Ali.

67

ثُمَّ اخُوهُ ٱلسِّبْطُ ٱلتَّابِعُ لِمَرْضَاةِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْحُسَيْنُ

Then comes his brother, the grandson and seeker of Allah’s pleasure; al-Husayn.

68

ثُمَّ ٱلْعَابِدُ عَلِيٌّ

Then comes `Ali, the [distinctive] worshipper [of Allah].

69

ثُمَّ ٱلْبَاقِرُ مُحَمَّدٌ

Then comes the Cleaver (of knowledge), Muhammad.

70

ثُمَّ ٱلصَّادِقُ جَعْفَرٌ

Then comes the veracious Ja`far.

71

ثُمَّ ٱلْكَاظِمُ مُوسَىٰ

Then comes the suppressor of rage, Musa.

72

ثُمَّ ٱلرِّضَا عَلِيٌّ

Then comes the pleased, `Ali.

73

ثُمَّ ٱلتَّقِيُّ مُحَمَّدٌ

Then comes the pious, Muhammad.

74

ثُمَّ ٱلنَّقِيُّ عَلِّيٌّ

Then comes the refined, `Ali.

75

ثُمَّ ٱلزَّكِيُّ ٱلْعَسْكَرِيُّ ٱلْحَسَنُ

Then comes the pure resident of `Askar, al-Hasan.

76

ثُمَّ ٱلْحُجَّةُ ٱلْخَلَفُ ٱلْقَائِمُ

Then comes the Argument, Successor, Assumer,

77

ٱلْمُنْتَظَرُ ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ ٱلْمُرْجَىٰ

Awaited, Well-guided, and Expected

78

ٱلَّذِي بِبَقَائِهِ بَقِيَتِ ٱلدُّنْيَا

on account of whose existence, this world is kept in existence,

79

وَبِيُمْنِهِ رُزِقَ ٱلْوَرَىٰ

on account of whose blessing, the created beings are provided sustenance,

80

وَبِوُجُودِهِ ثَبَتَتِ ٱلارْضُ وَٱلسَّمَاءُ

and on account of whose existence, the earth and the sky are kept in firmness.

81

وَبِهِ يَمْلَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلارْضَ قِسْطاً وَعَدْلاً

Through him, Allah shall fill the earth with equity and justice

82

بَعْدَ مَا مُلِئَتْ ظُلْماً وَجَوْراً

after it will be filled with inequity and injustice.

83

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ اقْوَالَهُمْ حُجَّةً

I also bear witness that their words are decisive arguments,

84

وَٱمْتِثَالَهُمْ فَرِيضَةً

to comply with their orders is obligatory,

85

وَطَاعَتَهُم مَفْرُوضَةً

the obedience to them is commissioned [by Allah],

86

وَمَوَدَّتَهُمْ لازِمَةً مَقْضِيَّةً

to love them is necessary and pre-ordained,

87

وَٱلاِقْتِدَاءُ بِهِم مُنجِيَةً

and to pattern after them will definitely achieve salvation,

88

وَمُخَالَفَتَهُم مُرْدِيَةً

but to oppose them will definitely bring about destruction.

89

وَهُمْ سَادَاتُ اهْلِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ اجْمَعِينَ

They are, moreover, the chiefs of all the inhabitants of Paradise,

90

وَشُفَعَاءُ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

the interceders on the Judgment Day,

91

وَائِمَّةُ اهْلِ ٱلارْضِ عَلىٰ ٱلْيَقِينِ

and, undoubtedly, the leaders of the inhabitants of the earth,

92

وَافْضَلُ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ ٱلْمَرْضِيِّينَ

and the best of the satisfied Successors [of the Prophets].

93

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلْمَوْتَ حَقٌّ

I also bear witness that death is certain,

94

وَمُسَاءَلَةَ مُنْكَرٍ وَنَكِيرٍ فِي ٱلْقَبْرِ حَقٌّ

the interrogation in the grave is certain,

95

وَٱلْبَعْثَ حَقٌّ

the raising of the dead is certain,

96

وَٱلنُّشُورَ حَقٌّ

the final assemblage is certain,

97

وَٱلصِّرَاطَ حَقٌّ

the Discriminating Bridge is certain,

98

وَٱلْمِيزَانَ حَقٌّ

the Scales [of deeds] is certain,

99

وَٱلْحِسَابَ حَقٌّ

the calling into account is certain,

100

وَٱلْكِتَابَ حَقٌّ

the record book [of deeds] is certain,

101

وَٱلْجَنَّةَ حَقٌّ

Paradise is certain,

102

وَٱلنَّارَ حَقٌّ

Hellfire is certain,

103

وَانَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهَا

the Hour [of resurrection] will certainly come, without any dispute,

104

وَانَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي ٱلْقُبُورِ

and Allah shall raise up those who are in graves.

105

اللَّهُمَّ فَضْلُكَ رَجَائِي

O Allah, in Your favor do I put my hope,

106

وَكَرَمُكَ وَرَحْمَتُكَ امَلِي

Your generosity and mercy do I expect confidently,

107

لاَ عَمَلَ لِي اسْتَحِقُّ بِهِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ

I have no single deed by which I deserve Paradise,

108

وَلاَ طَاعَةَ لِي اسْتَوْجِبُ بِهَا ٱلرِّضْوَانَ

nor do I have any act of obedience [to You] due to which I deserve Your pleasure;

109

إِلاَّ انِّي ٱعْتَقَدتُّ تَوْحِيدَكَ وَعَدْلَكَ

except that I believe in Your Oneness and Your Justice

110

وَٱرْتَجَيْتُ إِحْسَانَكَ وَفَضْلَكَ

and I hope for Your benevolence and Your favor.

111

وَتَشَفَّعْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِٱلنَّبِيِّ وَآلِهِ مِنْ احِبَّتِكَ

I thus seek the Prophet and his Household, Your most-beloved ones, to intercede for me before You;

112

وَانتَ اكْرَمُ ٱلاكْرَمِينَ

and You are verily the most Generous of all those who treat generously

113

وَارْحَمُ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

and the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

114

وَصَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

May Allah send blessings to Our Prophet, Muhammad

115

وَآلِهِ اجْمَعْينَ

and upon all of his Household,

116

ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

the pure and immaculate,

117

وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيماً كَثِيراً كَثِيراً

and send upon them many many benedictions.

118

وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

There is no might and no power except with Allah, the All-high, the All-great.

119

اللَّهُمَّ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

O Allah! O most Merciful of all those who show mercy,

120

إِنِّي اوْدَعْتُكَ يَقِينِي هٰذَا وَثَبَاتَ دِينِي

I am depositing with You this faith of mine and my firmness on this belief;

121

وَانتَ خَيْرُ مُسْتَوْدَعٍ

and You are the ever-best of all those who keep deposits.

122

وَقَدْ امَرْتَنَا بِحِفْظِ ٱلْوَدَائِعِ

You have commanded us to keep safe deposits that are put with us;

123

فَرُدَّهُ عَلَيَّ وَقْتَ حُضُورِ مَوْتِي

so, (please) keep for me this deposit to give it back to me at the time of my death

124

وَعِنْدَ مُسَاءَلَةِ مُنْكَرٍ وَنَكِيرٍ

and at the time of the interrogation of Munkar and Nakir;

125

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

[I beseech You] in the name of Your mercy; O most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

126

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ ٱلعَدِيلَةِ عِنْدَ ٱلْمَوْتِ

O Allah, I seek Your protection against deviation at the hour of death.
