Sahifa Sajjadiya 24: Prayer for Parents

وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ،

wa ahli baytihi aṭ-ṭāhirīn,

and his pure family,

وَاخْصُصْهُمْ بِأَفْضَلِ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

wa ikhṣuṣhum bi-afḍali ṣalawātika wa raḥmatik

and single them out with the best of Your blessings, and Your mercy,

وَبَرَكَاتِكَ وَسَلاَمِكَ،

wa barakātika wa salāmik,

and Your favors, and Your peace.

وَاخْصُصِ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِدَيَّ بِالْكَرَامَةِ لَدَيْكَ،

wa ikhṣuṣi Allāhumma wālidayya bi-al-karāmati ladayk,

And single out, O Allah, my parents with honor in Your presence,

وَالصَّلاَةِ مِنْكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

wa aṣ-ṣalāti minka yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīn.

and blessings from You, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālih

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family,

وَأَلْهِمْنِي عِلْمَ مَا يَجبُ لَهُمَا عَلَىَّ إلْهَاماً،

wa alhimnī ‘ilma mā yajibu lahumā ‘alayya ilhāmā,

and inspire me with the knowledge of what is due to them from me, an inspiration,

وَاجْمَعْ لِي عِلْمَ ذلِكَ كُلِّهِ تَمَامـاً،

wa ijma‘ lī ‘ilma dhālika kullihī tamāmā,

and gather for me the complete knowledge of all of that,

ثُمَّ اسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِمَا تُلْهِمُنِي مِنْـهُ،

thumma ista‘milnī bi-mā tulhimunī minh,

then make me act according to what You inspire me with from it,

وَوَفِّقْنِي لِلنُّفُوذِ فِيمَا تُبَصِّـرُنِيْ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ،

wa waffiqnī li-an-nufūdhi fīmā tubaṣṣirunī min ‘ilmih,

and grant me success to penetrate what You give me insight into of its knowledge,

حَتَّى لاَ يَفُوتَنِي اسْتِعْمَالُ شَيْء عَلَّمْتَنِيْهِ،

ḥattā lā yafūtanī isti‘mālu shay’in ‘allamtanīh,

so that the practice of anything You have taught me does not escape me,

وَلاَ تَثْقُلَ أَرْكَانِي عَنِ الْحُفُوفِ فِيمَا أَلْهَمْتَنِيهِ.

wa lā tathqula arkānī ‘ani al-ḥufūfi fīmā alhamtanīh.

and my limbs do not become heavy in carrying out what You have inspired me with.

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ كَمَا شَرَّفْتَنَا بِهِ

Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālih kamā sharraftanā bih

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family, just as You honored us through him,

وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

wa ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālih

and send blessings upon Muhammad and his family,

كَمَا أَوْجَبْتَ لَنَا الْحَقَّ عَلَى الْخَلْقِ بِسَبَبِهِ.

kamā awjabta lanā al-ḥaqqa ‘alā al-khalqi bi-sababih.

just as You made incumbent upon the creation the right due to us because of him.

أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أَهَابُهُمَا هَيْبَةَ السُّلْطَانِ الْعَسُوفِ،

Allāhumma ij‘alnī ahābuhumā haybata as-sulṭāni al-‘asūf,

O Allah, make me regard them with the awe of the fierce ruler,

وَأَبَرُّهُمَا بِرَّ الأُمِّ الرَّؤُوفِ،

wa abarrhuma birra al-ummi ar-ra’ūf,

and be more dutiful to them than the merciful mother,

وَاجْعَلْ طَاعَتِي لِوَالِدَيَّ وَبِرِّيْ بِهِمَا

wa ij‘al ṭā‘atī li-wālidayya wa birrī bihimā

and make my obedience to my parents and my dutifulness to them

أَقَرَّ لِعَيْنِي مِنْ رَقْدَةِ الْوَسْنَانِ،

aqarra li-‘aynī min raqḍati al-wasnān,

more delightful to my eyes than the sleep of the weary,

وَأَثْلَجَ لِصَدْرِي مِنْ شَرْبَةِ الظَّمْآنِ

wa athlaja li-ṣadrī min sharbati aẓ-ẓam’ān

and cooler to my chest than the drink of the thirsty,

حَتَّى أوثِرَ عَلَى هَوَايَ هَوَاهُمَا

ḥattā ūthira ‘alā hawāya hawāhumā

so that I prefer their desire over my own desire,

وَأُقَدِّمَ عَلَى رِضَاىَ رِضَاهُمَا

wa uqaddima ‘alā riḍāya riḍāhumā

and place their pleasure before my own pleasure,

وَأَسْتَكْثِرَ بِرَّهُمَا بِي وَإنْ قَلَّ

wa astakthira birrahumā bī wa in qall

and consider my parents’ kindness to me to be great, even if it is little,

وَأَسْتَقِلَّ بِرِّي بِهِمَا وَإنْ كَثُرَ.

wa astaqilla birrī bihimā wa in kathur.

and consider my dutifulness to them to be little, even if it is much.

أللَّهُمَّ خَفِّضْ لَهُمَا صَوْتِي، وَأَطِبْ لَهُمَا كَلاَمِي،

Allāhumma khaffiḍ lahumā ṣawtī, wa aṭib lahumā kalāmī,

O Allah, lower my voice before them, and sweeten my speech for them,

وَأَلِنْ لَهُمَا عَرِيْكَتِي، وَاعْطِفْ عَلَيْهِمَا قَلْبِي،

wa alin lahumā ‘arīkatī, wa a‘ṭif ‘alayhimā qalbī,

and soften my nature for them, and incline my heart toward them,

وَصَيِّرْنِي بِهِمَا رَفِيقاً، وَعَلَيْهِمَا شَفِيقاً.

wa ṣayyirnī bihimā rafīqan, wa ‘alayhimā shafīqan.

and make me a gentle companion to them, and a compassionate person toward them.

أللَّهُمَّ اشْكُرْ لَهُمَا تَرْبِيَتِي وَأَثِبْهُمَا عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِي،

Allāhumma ushkur lahumā tarbiyatī wa athibhuma ‘alā takrimatī,

O Allah, thank them for raising me, and reward them for honoring me,

وَاحْفَظْ لَهُمَا مَا حَفِظَاهُ مِنِّي فِي صِغَرِي.

wa iḥfaẓ lahumā mā ḥafiẓāhu minnī fī ṣigharī.

and preserve for them what they preserved of me in my childhood.

اللَّهُمَّ وَمَا مَسَّهُمَا مِنِّي مِنْ أَذَىً

Allāhumma wa mā massahumā minnī min adhā

O Allah, and whatever harm touched them from me,

أَوْ خَلَصَ إلَيْهِمَا عَنِّي مِنْ مَكْرُوه

aw khalaṣa ilayhimā ‘annī min makrūh

or whatever unpleasant thing reached them from me,

أَوْ ضَاعَ قِبَلِي لَهُمَا مِنْ حَقٍّ

aw ḍā‘a qibalī lahumā min ḥaqqin

or whatever right of theirs was lost by me,

فَاجْعَلْهُ حِطَّةً لِذُنُوبِهِمَا

fa-ij‘alhu ḥiṭṭatan li-dhunūbihimā

then make it a means of relief for their sins,

وَعُلُوّاً فِي دَرَجَاتِهِمَا

wa ‘uluwwan fī darajātihimā

and a raise in their ranks,

وَزِيَادَةً فِي حَسَنَاتِهِمَا

wa ziyādatan fī ḥasanātihimā

and an increase in their good deeds,

يَا مُبَدِّلَ السَّيِّئاتِ بِأَضْعَافِهَا مِنَ الْحَسَنَاتِ.

yā mubaddila as-sayyi’āti bi-aḍ‘āfihā mina al-ḥasanāt.

O You who exchange bad deeds for many times their like in good deeds.

أللَّهُمَّ وَمَا تَعَدَّيَا عَلَيَّ فِيهِ مِنْ قَوْل،

Allāhumma wa mā ta‘addayā ‘alayya fīhi min qawl,

O Allah, and whatever word they spoke that went beyond bounds against me,

أَوْ أَسْرَفَا عَلَىَّ فِيْهِ مِنْ فِعْل،

aw asrafā ‘alayya fīhi min fi‘l,

or whatever action they were excessive in against me,

أَوْ ضَيَّعَاهُ لِي مِنْ حَقٍّ

aw ḍayya‘āhu lī min ḥaqqin

or whatever right of mine they neglected,

أَوْ قَصَّرا بِي عَنْهُ مِنْ وَاجِب

aw qaṣṣarā bī ‘anhu min wājib

or whatever duty they fell short in towards me,

فَقَدْ وَهَبْتُهُ وَجُدْتُ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمَا،

fa-qad wahabtuhu wa judtu bihi ‘alayhimā,

I have forgiven it and granted it to them generously,

وَرَغِبْتُ إلَيْكَ فِي وَضْعِ تَبِعَتِهِ عَنْهُمَا

wa raghibtu ilayka fī waḍ‘i tabi‘atihi ‘anhumā

and I appeal to You to remove its accountability from them,

فَإنِّي لا أَتَّهِمُهُمَا عَلَى نَفْسِي،

fa-innī lā attahimuhumā ‘alā nafsī,

for I do not accuse them regarding myself,

وَلاَ أَسْتَبْطِئُهُمَا فِي بِرِّي،

wa lā astabṭi’uhumā fī birrī,

nor do I consider them slow in their kindness to me,

وَلا أكْرَهُ مَا تَوَلَّياهُ مِنْ أَمْرِي يَا رَبِّ

wa lā akrahu mā tawallayāhu min amrī yā Rabb

nor do I dislike what they undertook concerning my affairs, O Lord.

فَهُمَا أَوْجَبُ حَقّاً عَلَيَّ،

fa-humā awjabu ḥaqqan ‘alayy,

For they have the most incumbent right over me,

وَأَقْدَمُ إحْسَانـاً إلَيَّ

wa aqdamu iḥsānan ilayy

and the oldest kindness towards me,

وَأَعْظَمُ مِنَّةً لَـدَيَّ

wa a‘ẓamu minnatan ladayy

and the greatest favor with me—

مِنْ أَنْ أقَاصَّهُمَا بِعَدْل،

min an uqāṣṣahumā bi-‘adl,

than for me to take retribution from them with justice,

أَوْ أُجَازِيَهُمَا عَلَى مِثْل،

aw ujāziyahumā ‘alā mithl,

or reward them in kind.

أَيْنَ إذاً يَا إلهِيْ طُولُ شُغْلِهِمَا بِتَرْبِيَتِي ؟

ayna idhan yā Ilāhī ṭūlu shughlihimā bi-tarbiyatī?

Where then, O my God, is the long effort of their raising me?

وَأَيْنَ شِدَّةُ تَعَبِهِمَا فِي حِرَاسَتِيْ ؟

wa ayna shiddatu ta‘abihimā fī ḥirāsatī?

And where is the intensity of their toil in guarding me?

وَأَيْنَ إقْتَارُهُمَا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمَا لِلتَّوْسِعَةِ عَلَيَّ؟

wa ayna iqtāruhumā ‘alā anfusihimā li-at-tawsi‘ati ‘alayy?

And where is their scarcity for themselves in order to provide abundantly for me?

هَيْهَاتَ مَا يَسْتَوْفِيَانِ مِنِّي حَقَّهُمَا،

hayhāta mā yastawfiyāni minnī ḥaqqahumā,

Far be it! They cannot exhaust their right from me,

وَلاَ اُدْرِكُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَيَّ لَهُمَا

wa lā udriku mā yajibu ‘alayya lahumā

nor can I reach what is incumbent upon me for them,

وَلا أَنَا بِقَاض وَظِيفَةَ خِدْمَتِهِمَا.

wa lā anā bi-qāḍin waẓīfata khidmatihimā.

and I am not one who can fulfill the duty of serving them.

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

fa-ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālih

So send blessings upon Muhammad and his family,

وَأَعِنِّي يَا خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتُعِينَ بِهِ.

wa a‘innī yā khayra mani istu‘īna bih.

and help me, O Best of those whose help is sought.

وَوَفِّقْنِي يَا أَهْدَى مَنْ رُغِبَ إلَيْهِ،

wa waffiqnī yā ahdā man rughiba ilayh,

And grant me success, O Most Guiding of those desired,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي فِي أَهْلِ الْعُقُوقِ لِلآباءِوَالأُمَّهاتِ

wa lā taj‘alnī fī ahli al-‘uqūqi li-al-ābā’i wa al-ummahāt

and do not place me among the people of disobedience to fathers and mothers

يَوْمَ تُجْزى كُلُّ نَفْس بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لاَيُظْلَمُونَ.

yawma tujzā kullu nafsin bi-mā kasabat wa hum lā yuẓlamūn.

on the Day every soul is recompensed for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ،

Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī wa dhurrīyatih,

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family and his descendants,

وَاخْصُصْ أَبَوَيَّ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا خَصَصْتَ بِهِ

wa ikhṣuṣ abawayya bi-afḍali mā khaṣaṣta bih

and single out my parents with the best of what You singled out

آبَاءَ عِبَادِكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَاُمَّهَاتِهِمْ يَا أَرْحَمَ الـرَّاحِمِينَ.

ābā’a ‘ibādika al-mu’minīna wa ummahātihim yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīn.

the fathers of Your believing servants and their mothers, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

أللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَهُمَا فِي أَدْبَارِ صَلَوَاتِي

Allāhumma lā tunsīnī dhikrahumā fī adbāri ṣalawātī

O Allah, do not make me forget their remembrance at the conclusions of my prayers,

وَفِي أَناً مِنْ آناءِ لَيْلِي،

wa fī anan min ānā’i laylī,

and in any part of the moments of my night,

وَفِي كُلِّ سَاعَة مِنْ سَاعَاتِ نَهَارِي.

wa fī kulli sā‘atin min sā‘āti nahārī.

and in every hour of the hours of my day.

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ālih

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family,

وَاغْفِرْ لِي بِدُعَائِي لَهُمَا،

wa ighfir lī bi-du‘ā’ī lahumā,

and forgive me through my prayer for them,

وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمَـا بِبِرِّهِمَـا بِي،

wa ighfir lahumā bi-birrihimā bī,

and forgive them through their dutifulness to me,

مَغْفِرَةً حَتْمـاً

maghfiratan ḥatmā

a definite forgiveness,

وَارْضَ عَنْهُمَا بِشَفَاعَتِي لَهُمَا رِضَىً عَزْماً،

wa irḍa ‘anhumā bi-shafā‘atī lahumā riḍan ‘azmā,

and be pleased with them through my intercession for them, a resolute pleasure,

وَبَلِّغْهُمَا بِالْكَرَامَةِ مَوَاطِنَ السَّلاَمَةِ.

wa ballighhumā bi-al-karāmati mawāṭina as-salāmah.

and convey them with honor to the abodes of peace.

أللَّهُمَّ وَإنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُكَ لَهُمَا فَشَفِّعْهُمَا فِيَّ،

Allāhumma wa in sabaqat maghfiratuka lahumā fa-shaffi‘humā fiyy,

O Allah, if Your forgiveness preceded them, then make them intercede for me,

وَإنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُـكَ لِي فَشَفِّعْنِي فِيْهِمَا،

wa in sabaqat maghfiratuka lī fa-shaffi‘nī fīhimā,

and if Your forgiveness preceded me, then make me intercede for them,

حَتّى نَجْتَمِعَ بِرَأفَتِكَ فِي دَارِ كَرَامَتِكَ

ḥattā najtami‘a bi-ra’fatika fī dāri karāmatik

so that we may gather by Your compassion in the abode of Your honor,

وَمَحَلِّ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ،

wa maḥalli maghfiratika wa raḥmatik,

and the place of Your forgiveness and Your mercy.

إنَّكَ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْمَنِّ الْقَدِيْمِ

innaka dhū al-faḍli al-‘aẓīmi wa al-manni al-qadīm

Truly, You are the Possessor of immense favor and ancient bounty,

وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

wa anta arḥamu ar-rāḥimīn.

and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد عَبْـدِكَ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laamuh'am-madin a'b-dika

1.O God, bless Muhammad, Your slave

وَرَسُولِـكَ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّاهِرِينَ،

wa rasoolika wa ah-li bay-tihit'-t'aahireena

2.and Your messenger, and his Household, the pure,

وَاخْصُصْهُمْ بِأَفْضَلِ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ وَبَرَكَاتِكَ وَسَلاَمِكَ،

wa akh-s'us'-hum bif-z''ali s'alawaatika wa rah'-matika wa barakaatika wa salaamik

3.and single them out for the best of Your blessings, Your mercy, Your benedictions, and Your peace!

وَاخْصُصِ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِدَيَّ بِالْكَرَامَةِ لَدَيْكَ،

wa akh-s'us'il-laahum-ma waaliday-ya bil-karaamati laday-k

4.And single out my parents, O God, for honour with You

وَالصَّلاَةِ مِنْكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

was'-s'alaati minka yaaa ar-h'amar-raah'imeen

5.and blessings from You, O Most Merciful of the merciful!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

6.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَأَلْهِمْنِي عِلْمَ مَا يَجبُ لَهُمَا عَلَىَّ إلْهَاماً،

wa al-him-nee i'l-ma maa yajibu lahumaa a'l-lay il-haamaa

7.teach me through inspiration knowledge of everything incumbent upon me toward them,

وَاجْمَعْ لِي عِلْمَ ذلِكَ كُلِّهِ تَمَامـاً،

wa aj-maa' lee i'l-ma d'alika kul-lihee tamaamaa

8.and gather within me knowledge of all that completely!

ثُمَّ اسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِمَا تُلْهِمُنِي مِنْـهُ،

thum-ma as-taa'-mil-nee bimaa tul-himunee min-h

9.Then make me act in accordance with what You hast inspired me

وَوَفِّقْنِي لِلنُّفُوذِ فِيمَا تُبَصِّـرُنِيْ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ،

wa waf-fiq-nee liln-nufood'i feemaa tubas'-s'irunee min i'l-mih

10.and give me the success to put into practice the knowledge You hast shown to me,

حَتَّى لاَ يَفُوتَنِي اسْتِعْمَالُ شَيْء عَلَّمْتَنِيْهِ،

h'at-taa laa yafootanee as-tia'-maalu shay-in a'l-lam-taneeh

11.lest I fail to act according to something You hast taught me

وَلاَ تَثْقُلَ أَرْكَانِي عَنِ الْحُفُوفِ فِيمَا أَلْهَمْتَنِيهِ.

wa laa tath-qula ar-kaanee a'nil-h'ufoofi feemaaa al-ham-taneeh

12.or my limbs feel too heavy to perform that with which You hast inspired me!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee

13.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

كَمَا شَرَّفْتَنَا بِهِ

kamaa shar-raf-tanaa bih

14.as You hast ennobled us through him,

وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

wa s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee

15.and bless Muhammad and his Household,

كَمَا أَوْجَبْتَ لَنَا الْحَقَّ عَلَى الْخَلْقِ بِسَبَبِهِ.

kamaaa aw-jab-ta lanaal-h'aq-qa a'laal-khal-qi bisababih

16.as You hast made incumbent upon us rights toward the creatures because of him!

أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أَهَابُهُمَا هَيْبَةَ السُّلْطَانِ الْعَسُوفِ،

al-laahum-ma aj-a'l-nee ahaabuhumaa hay-batas-sul-t'aanil-a'soof

17.O God, fill me with awe of my parents, the awe one has toward a tyrannical sovereign,

وَأَبَرُّهُمَا بِرَّ الأُمِّ الرَّؤُوفِ،

wa abar-ruhumaa bir-ral-um-mir-ra-oof

18.and let me be devoted to them, with the devotion of a compassionate mother!

وَاجْعَلْ طَاعَتِي لِوَالِدَيَّ وَبِرِّيْ بِهِمَا

waj-a'l t'aaa'tee liwaaliday-ya wa bir-ree bihimaa

19.Make my obedience and devotion to them

أَقَرَّ لِعَيْنِي مِنْ رَقْدَةِ الْوَسْنَانِ،

aqar-ra lia'y-nee mir-raq-datil-was-naan

20.more gladdening to my eyes than sleep to the drowsy

وَأَثْلَجَ لِصَدْرِي مِنْ شَرْبَةِ الظَّمْآنِ

wa ath-laja lis'ad-ree min shar-batiz'-z'am-aaan

21.and more refreshing to my breast than drink to the thirsty,

حَتَّى أوثِرَ عَلَى هَوَايَ هَوَاهُمَا

hat-taaa oothira a'laa hawaaya hawaahumaa

22.so that I may prefer their inclination to my inclination,

وَأُقَدِّمَ عَلَى رِضَاىَ رِضَاهُمَا وَأَسْتَكْثِرَ بِرَّهُمَا

wa uqad-dima a'laa riz''aaya riz''aahumaa wa as-tak-thira bir-rahumaa

23.set their satisfaction before my satisfaction, make much of their devotion to me

بِي وَإنْ قَلَّ وَأَسْتَقِلَّ بِرِّي بِهِمَا وَإنْ كَثُرَ.

bee wa in qal wa as-taqil-la bir-ree bihimaa wa in kathur

24.though it be little, and make little of my devotion to them though it be great.

أللَّهُمَّ خَفِّضْ لَهُمَا صَوْتِي،

al-laahum-ma khaf-fiz'' lahumaa s'aw-tee

25.O God, lower before them my voice,

وَأَطِبْ لَهُمَا كَلاَمِي،

wa at'ib lahumaa kalaamee

26.make agreeable to them my words,

وَأَلِنْ لَهُمَا عَرِيْكَتِي،

wa alil-lahumaa a'reekatee

27.make mild before them my temper,

وَاعْطِفْ عَلَيْهِمَا قَلْبِي،

wa aa'-t'if a'lay-himaa qal-bee

28.make tender toward them my heart,

وَصَيِّرْنِي بِهِمَا رَفِيقاً، وَعَلَيْهِمَا شَفِيقاً.

wa s'ay-yir-nee bihimaa rafeeqaw-wa a'lay-himaa shafeeqaa

29.and turn me into their kind companion, their loving friend!

أللَّهُمَّ اشْكُرْ لَهُمَا تَرْبِيَتِي وَأَثِبْهُمَا عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِي،

al-laahum-ma ush-kur lahumaa tar-beeatee wa athib-humaa a'laa tak-rimatee

30.O God, thank them for my upbringing, reward them for honouring me,

وَاحْفَظْ لَهُمَا مَا حَفِظَاهُ مِنِّي فِي صِغَرِي.

wa ah'-faz' lahumaa maa h'afiz'aahoo min-nee fee s'igharee

31.and guard them as they guarded me in my infancy!

اللَّهُمَّ وَمَا مَسَّهُمَا مِنِّي مِنْ أَذَىً أَوْ خَلَصَ إلَيْهِمَا عَنِّي مِنْ مَكْرُوه

al-laahum-ma wa maa mas-sahumaa min-nee min ad'ana aw khalas'a ilay-himaa a'n-nee mim-mak-rooh

32.O God, and whatever harm has touched them from me, detested thing has reached them from me,

أَوْ ضَاعَ قِبَلِي لَهُمَا مِنْ حَقٍّ

aw z''aaa' qibalee lahumaa min h'aq

33.or right of theirs which has been neglected by me,

فَاجْعَلْهُ حِطَّةً لِذُنُوبِهِمَا

faj-a'l-h h'it'-t'atal-lid'unoobihimaa

34.allow it to alleviate their sins,

وَعُلُوّاً فِي دَرَجَاتِهِمَا

wa u'loo-wan fee darajaatihimaa

35.raise them in their degrees,

وَزِيَادَةً فِي حَسَنَاتِهِمَا

wa zeeaadatan fee h'asanaatihimaa

36.and add to their good deeds!

يَا مُبَدِّلَ السَّيِّئاتِ بِأَضْعَافِهَا مِنَ الْحَسَنَاتِ.

yaa mubad-dilas-say-yi-aati biz''-a'afihaa minal-h'asnaat

37.O He who changes evil deeds into manifold good deeds!

أللَّهُمَّ وَمَا تَعَدَّيَا عَلَيَّ فِيهِ مِنْ قَوْل،

al-laahum-ma wa maa taa'd-dayaa a'lay-ya feehee min qaw-l

38.O God, whatever word through which they have transgressed against me,

أَوْ أَسْرَفَا عَلَىَّ فِيْهِ مِنْ فِعْل،

aw as-rafaa a'lay-ya feehee min fia'-l

39.act through which they have been immoderate with me,

أَوْ ضَيَّعَاهُ لِي مِنْ حَقٍّ أَوْ قَصَّرا بِي عَنْهُ مِنْ وَاجِب

aw z''ay-yaa'ahoo lee min h'aq aw qas'-s'araa bee a'n-hoo miw-waajib

40.right of mine which they have left neglected, or obligation toward me in which they have fallen short,

فَقَدْ وَهَبْتُهُ وَجُدْتُ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمَا،

faqad wahab-tuhoo lahumaa wa jut-tu bihee a'lay-himaa

41.I grant it to them and bestow it upon them,

وَرَغِبْتُ إلَيْكَ فِي وَضْعِ تَبِعَتِهِ عَنْهُمَا

wa raghib-tu ilay-ka fee waz''-i' tabia'tihee a'n-humaa

42.and I beseech You to remove from them its ill consequence,

فَإنِّي لا أَتَّهِمُهُمَا عَلَى نَفْسِي،

fa in-nee laaa at-tahimuhumaa a'laa naf-see

43.for I do not accuse them concerning myself,

وَلاَ أَسْتَبْطِئُهُمَا فِي بِرِّي،

wa laaa as-tab-t'i-uhumaa fee bir-ree

44.find them slow in their devotion toward me,

وَلا أكْرَهُ مَا تَوَلَّياهُ مِنْ أَمْرِي يَا رَبِّ

wa laaa ak-rahoo maa tawal-layaahoo min am-ree yaa rab

45.or dislike the way they have attended to my affairs, my Lord!

فَهُمَا أَوْجَبُ حَقّاً عَلَيَّ،

fahumaaa aw-jabu h'aq-qana a'lay

46.They have rights against me which are more incumbent,

وَأَقْدَمُ إحْسَانـاً إلَيَّ

wa aq-damu ih'-saanan ilayya

47.precedence in beneficence toward me that is greater

وَأَعْظَمُ مِنَّةً لَـدَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أقَاصَّهُمَا بِعَدْل،

wa aa'-z'amu min-natal-laday min an uqaaas'-s'ahumaa bia'd-l

48.and kindness toward me that is mightier than that I should settle accounts with justice

أَوْ أُجَازِيَهُمَا عَلَى مِثْل،

aw ujaazeeahumaa a'laa mith-lin

49.or repay them with equivalents.

أَيْنَ إذاً يَا إلهِيْ طُولُ شُغْلِهِمَا بِتَرْبِيَتِي ؟

sy-na id'ay-yaaa ilaahee t'oolu shugh-lihimaa bitarbeeatee?

50.Where then, my God, would be their long occupation with bringing me up?

وَأَيْنَ شِدَّةُ تَعَبِهِمَا فِي حِرَاسَتِيْ ؟

wa ay-na shid-datu taa'bihimaa fee h'iraasatee?

51.Where the hardship of their toil in taking care of me?

وَأَيْنَ إقْتَارُهُمَا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمَا لِلتَّوْسِعَةِ عَلَيَّ؟

wa ay-na iq-taaruhumaa a'laaa anfusihimaa lilt-taw-sia'ti a'lay-ya?

52.Where the stinting of themselves to provide me with plenty?

هَيْهَاتَ مَا يَسْتَوْفِيَانِ مِنِّي حَقَّهُمَا،

hay-haat maa yas-taw-feeaani min-nee h'aq-qahumaa

53.What an idea! I can never discharge their right against me,

وَلاَ اُدْرِكُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَيَّ لَهُمَا

wa laaa ud-riku maa yajibu a'lay-ya lahumaa

54.fulfil my obligations toward them,

وَلا أَنَا بِقَاض وَظِيفَةَ خِدْمَتِهِمَا.

wa laaa ana biqaaz''iw-waz'eefata khid-matihimaa

55.or accomplish the duty of serving them.

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

56.So bless Muhammad and his Household

وَأَعِنِّي يَا خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتُعِينَ بِهِ.

wa ai'n-nee yaa khay-ra mani as-tue'ena bih

57.and help me, O Best of those whose help we seek!

وَوَفِّقْنِي يَا أَهْدَى مَنْ رُغِبَ إلَيْهِ،

wa waf-fiq-nee yaaa ah-daa mar-rughiba ilay-h

58.Give me success, O Most Guiding of those whom we beseech!

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي فِي أَهْلِ الْعُقُوقِ لِلآباءِوَالأُمَّهاتِ

wa laa taj-a'l-nee feee ah-lil-u'qooqi lil-abaaa-i wal-um-mahaati

59.Place me not among the people of disrespect to fathers and mothers

يَوْمَ تُجْزى كُلُّ نَفْس بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لاَيُظْلَمُونَ.

(yaw-ma tuj-zaa kul-lu naf-sim-bimaa kasabat wahum laa yuz'-lamoon)

60.on the day when "every soul will be repaid for what it has earned, they shall not be wronged" (45:22).

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee wad'ur-ree-yatih

61.O God, bless Muhammad, his Household, and his progeny

وَاخْصُصْ أَبَوَيَّ بِأَفْضَلِ مَا خَصَصْتَ بِهِ

wa akh-s'us' abaway-ya bif-z''ali maa khas'as'-ta biheee

62.and single out my parents for the best which You hast singled out for

آبَاءَ عِبَادِكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَاُمَّهَاتِهِمْ يَا أَرْحَمَ الـرَّاحِمِينَ.

aaabaaa-a i'baadikal-moo-mineena wum-mahaatihim- yaaa ar-h'amar-raah'imeen

63.the fathers and mothers of Your faithful servants, O Most Merciful of the merciful!

أللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَهُمَا فِي أَدْبَارِ صَلَوَاتِي

al-laahum-ma laa tunsinee d'ik-rahumaa feee ad-baari s'alawaatee

64.O God, let me not forget to remember them after my ritual prayers,

وَفِي أَناً مِنْ آناءِ لَيْلِي،

wa feee inana min aaanaaa-i lay-lee

65.at every time throughout my night,

وَفِي كُلِّ سَاعَة مِنْ سَاعَاتِ نَهَارِي.

wa fee kul-li saaa'tim-min saaa'ati nahaaree

66.and in each of the hours of my day!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

67.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَاغْفِرْ لِي بِدُعَائِي لَهُمَا،

wa agh-fir lee bidua'aa-ee lahumaa

68.forgive me through my supplication for my parents,

وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمَـا بِبِرِّهِمَـا بِي،

wagh-fir lahumaa bibir-rihimaa bee

69.and forgive them through their devotion toward me

مَغْفِرَةً حَتْمـاً وَارْضَ عَنْهُمَا

magh-firatan h'at-maa war-z''a a'n-humaa

70.with unfailing forgiveness, be well pleased with them

بِشَفَاعَتِي لَهُمَا رِضَىً عَزْماً،

bishafaaa'tee lahumaa riz''ana a'z-maa

71.through my intercession for them with resolute good pleasure,

وَبَلِّغْهُمَا بِالْكَرَامَةِ مَوَاطِنَ السَّلاَمَةِ.

wa bal-ligh-humaa bil-karaamati mawaat'inas-salaamah

72.and make them reach through Your generosity the abodes of safety!

أللَّهُمَّ وَإنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُكَ لَهُمَا فَشَفِّعْهُمَا فِيَّ،

al-laahum-ma wa in sabaqat magh-firatuka lahumaa fashaf-fia'-humaa fee

73.O God, if Your forgiveness reaches them first, make them my intercessors,

وَإنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُـكَ لِي فَشَفِّعْنِي فِيْهِمَا،

wa in sabaqat magh-firatuka lee fashaf-fia'-nee feehimaa

74.and if Your forgiveness reaches me first, make me their intercessors,

حَتّى نَجْتَمِعَ بِرَأفَتِكَ فِي دَارِ كَرَامَتِكَ

h'at-taa naj-tamia' biraa-fatika fee daari karaamatika

75.so that we may gather together through Your gentleness in the house of Your generosity

وَمَحَلِّ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ،

wa mah'al-li magh-firatika warah'-matik

76.and the place of Your forgiveness and mercy!

إنَّكَ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْمَنِّ الْقَدِيْمِ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ .

in-naka d'ool-faz''-lil-a'z'eemi wal-man-nil-qadeem wa anta ar-h'amur-raah'imeen

77.Verily You art Possessor of abounding bounty and ancient kindness, and "Thou art the Most Merciful of the merciful" (7:151)!
